The community is centrally located in the Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux metro area. "Bayou Blue is on a parish line, cutting right through the Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes," says Beau Toups, a Realtor with Century 21 Action Realty specializing in military family relocations. "Bayou Blue is for people who want to travel the area. And for people who want to be in the Lafourche Parish school zone." Most churches and businesses are found along Bayou Blue Road. A variety of homes and price ranges

The community's main drag, Bayou Blue Road, stretches over 13 miles. The roadway leads past 20th-century residences with covered carports, manufactured homes and planned subdivisions. Most homes built after 2000 are west of Highway 182, inside developments such as Wallace J. Thibodaux Estates and Caro Estates at Bayou Blue. Most of these residences are single-story, New Traditional styles. Older ranch-style houses often enter the market needing repairs or as investment properties. There's also land available for buyers looking to build. Single-family dwellings typically range in price between $200,000 and $550,000. Occasionally, larger new construction and properties on several acres may cost buyers between $700,000 and $800,000. Manufactured homes can range from $100,000 to about $120,000. "Houses in Bayou Blue have a [comparatively] shorter time on the market because they are zoned for good Lafourche Parish schools," Toups says. "Much of Bayou Blue is in a Flood Zone X, which is another contributing factor." Although the community is not in a special flood hazard area, properties may still be impacted by coastal flooding or severe weather, such as hurricanes.

20th century Ranch-style homes are common for many Bayou Blue residents who have been living in the city for awhile.
