Oneco is a relaxed Bradenton community near shops and industrial jobs
Oneco is an established community in southeast Bradenton. “It was one of the first named communities in town,” says Elise Jakub, a Realtor with Marcus & Company Realty who has been working in the area for over 25 years. “It’s a sleepy little community, with a lot of people who have lived there their whole lives.” While Oneco has a slower pace of living, it also offers modern amenities, including shopping centers and highway access. Because there is so much industry in the area, residents are near many employers and downtown Bradenton, which is about 6 miles away.
Oneco continues today as a slow-paced neighborhood that offers many modern conveniences.
Many 55+ communities in Oneco offer residents pools, shuffleboard, and other amenities.

Owners and renters live in single-family and manufactured homes
Jakub explains that there is a lot of variation in the housing market, saying, “There are a lot of manufactured homes, single-family homes and a lot of renters,” Jakub says. “Many of the manufactured home communities are 55 and older.” One example is Terra Palms, an active adult community with amenities like a fitness center, pool and shuffleboard court. Most manufactured homes cost $40,000 to $80,000. The condos in Heatherwood also come with access to a pool and cost $120,000 to $160,000. Most single-family homes and duplexes are ranch-style houses with stucco or vinyl exteriors that date back to the mid-1900s. Prices generally range from $200,000 to $400,000, depending on size and condition. “Prices are going down, so it’s a good bang for your buck,” says Zachary Kaplan, a Realtor with Re/Mac Palm Realty who has been working in Bradenton for over 20 years. Rental properties make up almost two-thirds of the area and include duplexes, condos, single-family and manufactured homes.
According to First Street, Oneco has an extreme risk of hurricanes and a minor risk of flooding. However, Jakub says that most properties are built to handle the weather. “Manufactured homes have to follow the same construction guidelines as frame houses,” she says.
Oneco’s manufactured homes range in price from $50,000 to $200,000.
Ranch homes are a popular housing type in Oneco due to their investment value.

Oneco Town Center and other stores line 53rd Avenue
Shops, restaurants and entertainment are all within a short drive of the neighborhood. “It’s conveniently located, close to all the shopping and a movie theater on 53rd Avenue,” Jakub says. Oneco Town Center is a strip mall with national chains like Dollar General and a Habitat for Humanity Restore. The most popular store is the Oneco Farmers Market, which has over 100 vendors selling a wide range of goods, from fresh produce to clothing and artwork. Eateries like Haydee’s Restaurant, which serves Honduran food, make up much of the market. Oneco Town Center also hosts a monthly car show with antique cars and live music. Other nearby dining options include Tiramisu Ristorante Italiano. Also along 53rd Avenue, which is part of state Route 70, are Winn-Dixie, Walmart and an AMC theater.

Highways, buses and bikes transport residents to downtown Bradenton
Two major highways border Oneco: state Route 70, which intersects with U.S. Route 41, and U.S. Route 301. The latter offers a direct route to downtown Bradenton. While most people drive themselves, Kaplan says, “a lot of people ride their bikes.” Manatee County Area Transit’s Route 8 goes through the area. Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is about 7 miles away and offers nonstop flights to 69 destinations. Manatee Memorial Hospital is downtown, but its standalone ER at Bayshore Gardens is only about a 3-mile drive.
Besides the warehouses and manufacturing spaces in the Railside Industrial Park, the community is home to a recycling center and businesses like Permacast, which makes concrete walls.
Students attend Manatee County public and private schools
The community is part of the School District of Manatee County. Oneco Elementary and Sugg Middle schools receive a C from Niche. The B-minus-rated Southeast High has special programs like the Southeast Research Program and the Agriscience, Business and Culinary Academy. The district has schools through controlled open enrollment, which allows students to apply to programs outside of their assigned schools. Private education includes West Coast Christian Academy, an Adventist school offering prekindergarten through 12th-grade education, which is unrated by Niche.
