Suburban Neighborhood in Bayshore Gardens, Florida
Manatee County 34203, 34207
Oneco, an established neighborhood in southeast Bradenton, offers attractively priced housing in a convenient location. “There are a lot of manufactured homes, single-family homes and a lot of renters,” says Elise Jakub, a Realtor with Florida Property Brokers Realty Group LLC. “Many of the manufactured homes communities are 55 and older. People are moving there because of the affordability. You can get a nice house and own the land for $175,000.”
Depending on the size and amenities, manufactured homes range from $50,000 to $200,000. Typical amenities include clubhouses, pools and other spaces for related social and athletic activity such as pickleball and shuffleboard courts. Homes on the high-end of the price range are found at 55-plus locales Palm Lake Estates and the gated communities of Bayshore Windmill Village and Plantation Village. The typical manufactured home features a porch, small yard and private carport. Jakub says that owning the land on which a manufactured homes sits is especially attractive, as it keeps HOA fees to a minimum, typically under $200 a month. “Land-lease homes have expensive HOAs,” he says. “If you’re paying less than $1,000 a month, I’d be shocked.” Financing a manufactured home is relatively easy, as both FHA and conventional mortgages are available. And about the dangers of hurricanes? That’s overblown, says Jakub. “Manufactured homes have to follow the same construction guidelines as frame houses,” she says. The neighborhood’s single-family housing consists primarily of small to mid-sized ranch-style homes typically listing in the high $100,000s to mid-$200,000s. Home lots are large enough for yards and private driveways, and many of them feature carports. Several properties throughout the neighborhood have been converted into duplexes and offer investment opportunities in a fast-growing Gulf Coast region.
The neighborhood’s youngest students can attend Oneco Elementary or Blanche H. Daughtrey Elementary. Older students can attend Sugg Middle School and Bayshore High School, which offers the prestigious Cambridge AICE Program. Sara Scott Harllee Center is a nearby alternative school that offers tailored programs for a range of groups, including pregnant teens and disabled students.
Residents have easy access to retail, dining and entertainment, as one of Bradenton’s primary commercial corridors forms the north side of the neighborhood. “It’s conveniently located, close to all the shopping and a movie theater on 53rd Avenue,” says Jakub. Also known as State Road 70, 53rd Avenue is home to Oneco Town Center, a new mixed-use development featuring a popular farmer’s market among an array of convenient stores and eateries. The corridor also offers shopping at a neighborhood Winn-Dixie and Walmart, which is adjacent to AMC Bradenton 20. Tiramisu Ristorante Italiano is a highly rated eatery at 53rd Avenue and Tamiami Trail, another busy commercial corridor with a concentration of retail and dining options.
The neighborhood provides multiple options for recreational activity. Pride Park features a splash pad and lighted basketball courts and offers additional amenities that include a playground, a softball field and a sand volleyball court. Picnic pavilions and a paved trail allow for more passive recreation. Residents also have access to a basketball court and baseball diamond adjacent to Daughtrey Elementary.
Oneco’s long history, which began in the late 19th century, continues today as a slow-paced neighborhood that offers many modern conveniences. “It was one of the first named communities in town,” says Jakub. “It’s a sleepy little community, with a lot of people have lived there their whole lives.”
