About 15 miles from the nearest grocery store, this quiet Lowcountry community overlooks Wimbee Creek along South Carolina's Intracoastal Waterway. While the homes and local general store are older, Dale was only first recognized as a Census Designated Place in 2020, with a total population of 633.

Most houses sit far apart on spacious lots bound by tall pines and moss-covered oaks. Only two homes and six empty lots went on the market from 2023 to 2024. The residential listings range from $225,000 to $475,000, while land can cost anywhere from $30,000 to $455,000, depending on lot size and its proximity to the water.

Catch red fish at Wimbee Fishing Pier and Boat Landing
Dale borders Wimbee Creek, a narrow waterway spilling into the Combahee River. "I've heard it's one of the best places to catch redfish in the fall," says Chris Skrip, a nearby resident and Broker at Re/Max Dream. Residents without private docks can head about 2 miles east to the Wimbee Fishing Pier and Boat Landing. On the other side of the community, Wimbee Creek Equestrian Center is a members-only facility where locals board their horses. A fenced-in ball field, a basketball court and a playground are less than a mile away at the Dale Community Center.

Find local produce and homecooked meals at the Albany General Store
The Albany General Store is a longtime family business in the heart of Dale. A local favorite, the one-room store sells a little bit of everything, from pantry staples and local produce to fresh seafood and home-cooked meals. Folks head 2 miles up the road to Shouse Farm & Garden Supply to buy feed for their chickens and goats. The nearest grocery store is Publix, about 12 miles south in Burton. A 200,000-square-foot shopping center with national retailers and fast-food chains broke ground here in 2023. "It's an exciting new addition," says Connie Rambo, a nearby resident and Realtor with Carolina Realty of the Low Country. "That whole area is growing and changing, and people love the new conveniences."

Kids start preschool at the James J. Davis learning Center
Dale is zoned for the Beaufort County School District. Whale Branch Elementary scores a solid C on Niche. First through fourth graders attend class on the main campus in Seabrook, while the James J. Davis Learning Center hosts the preschool and kindergarten program. Whale Branch Middle is another C-rated school across the Combahee River. Earning a B-plus, Whale Branch Early College High partners with the Technical College of the Lowcountry to ensure all students graduate with a two-year associate's degree.
Dale students can then finish their primary education at Whale Branch Early College High.

Keans Neck Road runs through Dale
Keans Neck Road is the main route running through Dale. It quickly links to U.S. Highway 21, which leads to Beaufort Memorial Hospital about 15 miles south. Just north of the community, U.S. Highway 17 connects to Interstate 95. From here, the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is fewer than 45 miles away.
