Fanno Creek Greenway is a natural divide of homes and businesses

Inside the city of Beaverton, Vose is a largely residential neighborhood that separates its homes from its retail section with the Fanno Creek Greenway. Vose is about 9 miles from Portland, although Valerie Dawn, owner of Encore Performing Arts Center, who has worked in the area for 13 years, emphasizes that “we’re definitely not Portland.” The area has solidified its own identity with its local businesses, events that celebrate the rich culture in Beaverton and the highly rated Beaverton School District, which earns an A from Niche.

Ranch styles and split levels common in Vose

Sidewalks line the tree-filled residential roads of Vose. Homeowners decorate their lawns with an assortment of bushes, trees and flowers, adding a personal touch to each property. Ranch styles and split levels from the 1960s, many with mid-century modern influences, are the most common builds, although there are a variety of other styles, including Tudor Revivals and new traditional houses, are scattered throughout. Prices for a single-family tend to fall between $450,000 and $660,000. There are one and two-bedroom condos in the neighborhood as well, which can cost between $225,000 and $315,000.

Parkside Business District in southern Vose

The Parkside Business Center is in the southern part of the neighborhood and is home to a variety of shops, restaurants and studios, including the Encore Performing Arts Center. “We really honor the different dance styles that need representation,” Dawn says. “We welcome anyone.” After a class at the studio, locals can visit Beaverton Florists and get dinner at Si Señor Family Mexican. They can also explore one of the several restaurants in downtown Beaverton, about 2 miles from Vose. Dawn highlights the BG Food Cartel, which features stations from more than 15 restaurants. “We love to support local businesses,” Dawn says. Locals get their groceries from WinCo Foods, Safeway and Trader Joe’s, all about 2 miles away. Target is about 3 miles away and Lowe’s is about a 5-mile drive.

Beaverton events celebrate cultures in the neighborhood

Every summer, the City of Beaverton puts on Ten Tiny Dances, where cultural and traditional dances are performed on four-foot-by-four-foot stages across the city. This celebration embraces the vast cultural and artistic diversity in the area. There are also several markets held throughout the year, including the annual Night Market, which brings together multicultural food and crafts that resemble international markets. The Beaverton Farmers Market, which is held every Saturday from February to November, offers more than 170 vendors. “I love the Beaverton Farmers Market, a lot,” Dawn says.

Vose students attend highly rated Beaverton schools

As part of Beaverton School District, students can start at Vose Elementary School, which receives a B-plus from Niche, and participate in a dual-language education, learning Spanish at a young age. Whitford Middle School, which earns an A and features a student-teacher ratio of 17 to one. At Southridge High School, which scores an A-minus, students can participate in one of nearly 50 clubs, including fencing club or Key Club.

Fanno Creek Greenway and neighborhood parks

Part of the Fanno Creek Greenway runs through Vose, acting as a natural divide between the neighborhood's residential and retail areas. “It’s a little bit of surrealness among the businesses,” Dawn says. The trail is about 4 and a half miles long, and features offshoots into several neighborhoods. Several types of wildlife call the Greenway home, including Pacific tree frogs and beavers. At Ridgecrest Park, residents can practice basketball or go swinging. Sky Zone Trampoline Park is at the top of the Greenway and offers group and individual fun for all ages.

Beaverton is biker-friendly city

The city of Beaverton received the silver-certification from the League of American Bicyclists in May 2023, solidifying its status as a biker-friendly community. The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon manages the bus routes in Beaverton, and there are several stops in Vose. People can also drive themselves, and U.S. Route 217 borders the neighborhood, bringing them about 9 miles to Portland. Portland International Airport is about 22 miles away and offers nearly 70 nonstop flights.

Providence St. Vincent Medical Center about 5 miles outside Vose

The Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, which is about 5 miles from Vose, is one of the closest emergency rooms. Besides emergency care, the center is highly regarded for the Providence Heart Institute, Providence Center for Health Care Ethics and its maternity services, which delivers more babies than any other Oregon hospital.
