Glenwood
Distinctive ranch-style houses with large, manicured lawns
Glenwood is known for its large ranch-style homes, often built out of brick or stone. The neighborhood also has a smattering of Garrison Colonials and split-levels. Homes typically sit on about half an acre, sometimes closer to a full acre, and lawns are carefully maintained and manicured. Trees are also a common sight in front and back yards. Glenwood’s streets are quiet and sidewalk-free, but that doesn’t stop residents from going for a walk. “Every time I’m there, there ’s are people walking their dogs and taking evening strolls,” McGhee says. Homes rarely go for sale in Glenwood; only seven sold in 2024 and ranged in price from $450,000 to $650,000. McGhee says that homes here can occasionally climb as high as $750,000.Highly rated Harford County schools
Niche gives Harford County Public Schools an A-minus and lists it as the second-best district in the Baltimore area. Children can attend Ring Factory Elementary School, which also earns an A-minus, before learning at Patterson Mill Middle School, which has a B-plus. Niche ranks the A-rated Patterson Mill High School as the best public high school in Hartford County.Playgrounds and athletic fields a short drive away
Glenwood is highly residential, but there are parks just a short drive away. Rockfield Park is a favorite spot just over 3 miles away. “And that’s great for children, there’s a massive outdoor playground area,” McGhee says. “There’s a duck pond where people go feed ducks all the time.” The 51-acre park also has athletic fields and courts for softball, baseball, soccer, football and tennis. There’s even a disc golf course and a running track circling one of the fields. Also about 3 miles away, Shamrock Park has a playground and an open green space where many of Bel Air’s festivals and outdoor concerts are held. Maryland Golf & Country Clubs is also nearby, offering its members access to an 18-hole course and plenty of social events held in the clubhouse.Heading to Bel Air or Route 24 for shopping and dining
Residents often drive to downtown Bel Air to enjoy a meal. “The town of Bel Air seems to love Sunny Day Café for breakfast and brunch," McGhee says. "They have tables set out like a Paris bistro." One Eleven Main is a favorite for fine dining. Beyond restaurants, Bel Air’s wide selection of pubs and bars makes barhopping a popular event. Looney’s Pub and Sean Bolan’s Irish Pub are both local staples, with the latter offering frequent live music. Local boutiques and consignment shops also dot Main Street, making it a popular shopping destination.Big box stores and other essentials are found even closer to Glenwood along state Route 24, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway. Less than 2 miles from home, Festival at Bel Air shopping center has a Kohl’s, Marshalls and Petco alongside a ShopRite for groceries. Just down the road, Bel Air Plaza offers a Target, ALDI and Ross Dress for Less across from the Harford Mall, which offers dozens of shops.
A few miles to Route 24 and its nearby hospital, commuting to Baltimore
South Main Street, which leads all the way into downtown Bel Air, creates Glenwood's eastern border. The neighborhood itself consists entirely of quiet residential streets. The next biggest nearby road is Route 24, about 2 miles away. The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Bel Air is located along Route 24, less than 3 miles from home. Following the route south to Interstate 95 takes commuters to Baltimore, which is about 27 miles away — a drive that takes about 50 minutes in low traffic.Huge celebrations draw thousands to nearby Bel Air
Glenwood residents also tend to head into Bel Air for its many annual events. One of the area’s biggest events — in fact, one of the biggest single-day events in the Mid-Atlantic states — is the Bel Air Festival of the Arts. Drawing thousands, it features about 300 artists and craftspeople, all showcasing and selling their work alongside live music, food and activities for local kids. Bel Air’s Fourth of July Parade is also among the largest in Maryland.Below average CAP Index and rain during hurricane season
