Kuzma warns that traffic can make the drive take between 30 minutes and an hour and a half. “The highway is always under construction. It’s constantly jamming traffic up, especially during rush hour.” The neighborhood has no bus stops, but the Aberdeen train station is 11 miles east. It services the Maryland Area Rail Commuter Penn Line and Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route. Both lines typically reach Baltimore in under 45 minutes and Washington, D.C., in just over 2 hours. The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Bel Air is 5 miles west, while Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is 40 miles south.

Shopping on Baltimore Pike, Irish pubs and pizza in downtown Bel Air

Several commercial centers are accessible at the Baltimore Pike shopping corridor, less than 5 miles west. Bel Air Plaza has a Target and an Aldi, while Harford Mall has over 70 restaurants and stores, including Macy’s and Bath & Body Works. A few fast-food places, like Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s, are in the corridor, but Kuzma says most locals go out to eat in downtown Bel Air, 4 miles west. “It’s surprisingly lively for a downtown area in a Baltimore suburb.” Downtown's Georgian Revival-style storefronts are filled with Irish pubs, like Sean Bolan’s, known for live music, shepherd’s pie and Guinness on tap.
