Green Ridge
Homes on quarter-acre lots
Homes built between the 1980s and '90s dot Green Ridge’s winding roads, shaded by young oak trees. Ranch-style houses, bi-levels and New Traditionals are all common here. Houses typically have three to five bedrooms and garages, and the median lot size is a quarter-acre. Prices tend to be similar to the national median, with homes ranging from about $400,000 to around $550,000. The neighborhood's Cap Index crime score is 1 out of 10, the lowest possible rating and well below the national average of 4.Fountain Green Elementary is within walking distance
Kids can attend Fountain Green Elementary, Southampton Middle and C. Milton Wright High, all of which earn A-minus grades from Niche. Every house in Green Ridge is a mile or less away from the elementary school. “There aren’t bus routes for the elementary school here,” Kuzma says, explaining that Harford County Public Schools doesn't provide buses for students living within a mile of their school, so most kids walk. The high school offers Advanced Placement classes, like environmental science, studio art drawing and human geography. The Catholic St. Margaret School has its middle school just north of the neighborhood, and the unrated institution's elementary campus is about 3 miles west. Harford Community College, less than 4 miles north, features over 90 associate degree and certificate programs, including education, theater and criminal justice.I-95 to Baltimore can be traffic-heavy
Fountain Green Road connects with I-95 heading south, making Baltimore a 35-mile drive away. Kuzma warns that traffic can make the drive take between 30 minutes and an hour and a half. “The highway is always under construction. It’s constantly jamming traffic up, especially during rush hour.” The neighborhood has no bus stops, but the Aberdeen train station is 11 miles east. It services the Maryland Area Rail Commuter Penn Line and Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route. Both lines typically reach Baltimore in under 45 minutes and Washington, D.C., in just over 2 hours. The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Bel Air is 5 miles west, while Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is 40 miles south.Youth sports at nearby regional parks
Green Ridge is less than 5 miles from several green spaces. Parents cheer from the bleachers at the 110-acre Cedar Lane Regional Park, home to turf and grass fields for soccer, lacrosse and flag football. The Harford County Travel Baseball League plays on Schucks Regional Park’s diamonds. Kids can run around the castle-themed wooden playground at Rockfield Park, which also has a splash pad designed to resemble the Chesapeake Bay. A few beaches on the actual 2Chesapeake Bay are about 25 miles southeast, including Gunpowder Falls State Park.Shopping on Baltimore Pike, Irish pubs and pizza in downtown Bel Air
Several commercial centers are accessible at the Baltimore Pike shopping corridor, less than 5 miles west. Bel Air Plaza has a Target and an Aldi, while Harford Mall has over 70 restaurants and stores, including Macy’s and Bath & Body Works. A few fast-food places, like Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s, are in the corridor, but Kuzma says most locals go out to eat in downtown Bel Air, 4 miles west. “It’s surprisingly lively for a downtown area in a Baltimore suburb.” Downtown's Georgian Revival-style storefronts are filled with Irish pubs, like Sean Bolan’s, known for live music, shepherd’s pie and Guinness on tap. Italian restaurants, like the cozy Buontempo Brothers Pizza, are also common. The parking lot outside the Harford County District Court closes off every Saturday morning between April and November for the Bel Air Farmers Market.
