Stone Ridge is near social clubs
With winding roads shaded by young sycamore and oak trees, Stone Ridge offers a lush suburban setting in south Bel Air. The community’s western edge borders Maryland Golf and Country Clubs, and Fountain Green Swim Club is to the north. Though the golf course and swimming pools are within walking distance, locals have to drive for just about everything else. “The neighborhood is quiet because it’s tucked away from highways and shopping centers, but everything is still close by,” says Patty Manly, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway PenFed Realty who has sold several homes in the area. State Route 543, locally called Fountain Green Road, is right outside Stone Ridge’s entrance, and it connects with Interstate 95 to reach Baltimore. The eclectic restaurants of downtown Bel Air and shopping centers like Festival at Bel Air are less than 5 miles away.

The neighborhood has an HOA
Homes built in the early 2000s dot Stone Ridge’s sidewalk-lined streets. New Traditional houses and Colonial Revivals, typically made of red brick or stone, are common. Houses can have five to six bedrooms and two-car garages. Some properties back up to the golf course. Prices tend to be higher than the national median, with homes ranging from about $750,000 to around $1 million.
Residents have to pay a monthly $34 HOA fee, which covers trash pickup and snow removal. It also helps maintain the neighborhood’s trail network, which is accessible off Stone Post Court. The asphalt path stretches through forestland and circles around a manmade pond with a fountain at Stone Ridge's core.

Proximity to Maryland Golf and Country Clubs and Fountain Green Swim Club
Founded in 1961, Maryland Golf and Country Clubs was once a prestigious thoroughbred farm. Today, an 18-hole golf course takes up the rolling terrain. Members can play tennis and pickleball at the racket-sports complex or relax in lounge chairs around the pool. The two-story clubhouse has several restaurants, including The Pavilion, an outdoor dining section overlooking the golf course, and The Founders Room, a steakhouse and wine bar. Fountain Green Swim Club, around since the 1970s, is only open during the summer. The Dolphins swim team practices in the pool’s lap lanes on weekday mornings, while meets happen at night. A water-gun battle marks the beginning of the swim season each June, and kids take pictures with Santa and watch holiday movies on the pool deck during Christmas in July. Manly says most Stone Ridge locals typically join one of the clubs. “Proximity to those clubs is why a lot of people move here,” she says. “Whichever one you choose depends on if you golf or not.”

I-95 to Baltimore can be traffic-heavy
Fountain Green Road connects with I-95 southbound, making Baltimore a 30-mile drive away. Manly warns that traffic on I-95 often makes the drive take up to an hour and a half. “You have to leave work early or stay late to avoid traffic," she says. "I try not to drive on that highway ever during rush hour.” Bus stops aren’t in the immediate area, and the Aberdeen train station is about 11 miles east. The station services the Maryland Area Rail Commuter Penn Line and Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route. Both lines typically reach Baltimore in under 45 minutes and Washington, D.C., in just over 2 hours.
The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Bel Air is 5 miles west, and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is 40 miles south.
Locally owned restaurants in downtown Bel Air
Festival at Bel Air has over 65 stores, including a Shop Rite, Marshalls and Petco. There are also a few chain restaurants, like Panera Bread and Buffalo Wild Wings, but Manly says most locals go out to eat in downtown Bel Air. “It’s one of the only places in town with something other than chain restaurants.” Downtown’s Georgian Revival-style storefronts are filled with eateries like Sunny Day Café, a diner-style breakfast spot, and Sean Bolan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, known for live music and Guinness on tap. The Baltimore Pike shopping corridor is home to several supermarkets and Harford Mall, which has over 70 stores and restaurants.
