Coming in at 22 letters, Bellefontaine Neighbors has one of the lengthiest municipality name in the country. Fortunately, its distance from downtown St. Louis is a short 10 miles. Although the city was established in the 1950s, most amenities in Bellefontaine Neighbors are from the last 50 years — including Bella Fontaine Park. Home to about 10,500 people, the small city offers prices below the average for St. Louis County. “There are some that are over $150,000 to $250,000 over on Bellefontaine Road,” says Phil Young of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, an agent with several sales in the area. “But the majority are lower priced, and that’s what attracts people.”

From Bella Fontaine Park to Bissell Hills
At the heart of the neighborhood is Bella Fontaine Park, where it’s common to see someone fishing along Fountain Lake or walking along the tree-lined trails. Just across from the park is the recreation center, which has an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as a mini-golf course. Other recreational spaces, including Tanglewood and Bissell Hills, are scattered throughout the city. In the northwestern corner, the Bellefontaine Conservation Area's 133 acres offer swath of undeveloped land for fishing and nature loving, surrounding the Missouri Veterans Home site.
Outside of Bellefontaine Neighbors are the many amenities of St. Louis, from historical sites to sculpture parks, and there are more things to do just across the river. “St. Louis City is a tiny little pocket right there in the curve of the river, and St. Louis County is huge,” says Luan Meredith of Realty and Associates, an agent specializing in the St. Louis area. “And because we’re on the Mississippi River, you can drive across the bridge and go over into Illinois.”
