Berea, a Greenville suburb with waterfront property
Berea draws homebuyers for its casual suburban charm and access to both local and franchise dining. Residents also enjoy access to entertainment and employment options in Greenville, which has a population of roughly 70,000 people. "A lot of people in Berea have lived there for a long time and have drawn many of their family and friends to the area," says Regina Simmons, a broker with Solomon & Associates Real Estate. "They're very welcoming to new members of the community." The 331-acre Saluda Lake runs along Berea's western border, and residents use the lake for fishing and boating.

Berea's single-family houses
Many of Berea's three-to four-bedroom homes were built between the 1950s and early 2000s and are often renovated by homebuyers. Newly built Craftsman-style homes with open layouts and two-car garages congregate in subdivisions. Homebuyers will typically see ranch or New Traditional-style houses. Most homes sell for between $160,000 and $360,000, and the median price is around $250,000. Waterfront cottages sell for between $150,000 and $500,000. Visitors will notice spacious yards with oak-shaded gardens. Some homes offer waterfront access, with the Saluda Lake running along the western border. "Since it's so close to the Greenville area, the inventory stays low because living near the city is so desirable," Simmons says.
