Tudor Revivals and other century-old homes draw residents in
One of Bexley’s main draws is its century-old homes. “It is known for its tree-lined streets and well-maintained homes,” says Jason Hottle, Realtor and founder of Modern Ohio Realty, who has lived in Columbus since the mid-1990s. “While the average home is a little larger than 2,000 square feet, there are streets in Bexley that have, 5,000-plus square foot homes including really huge, old, historic, mansions along the river.” One of the most notable houses is the Ohio Governor’s Residence, a Jacobean Revival that was built in 1925. Most of the area dates back to that time, which is reflected in the Tudor and Colonial Revivals, as well as bungalows and American Foursquares throughout the city. There are also some mid-20th-century properties, including Garrison Colonials, modest cottages and ranch-style homes.
Within these homes are a close-knit community. “People want to get to know their neighbors,” says Realtor Terri Barnett, co-owner of Re/Max National Land Advisory Group in Bexley. “You’ll often find that neighbors are lifelong friends.”

Prices in Bexley vary, trending higher than Columbus
With Bexley’s varied architecture comes a wide price range, depending on size, condition and location. Most smaller houses, 3,000 square feet or less, cost between the low $200,000s and high $700,000s. Anything larger typically ranges from the high $700,000s to over $2 million. “Prices do trend higher than the rest of Columbus,” Hottle says. Single-family home prices are higher than in neighboring communities like Whitehall and Woodland Park.
Students attend top-rated public and private schools
Although Columbus neighborhoods surround the city, Bexley has its own top-rated school district. “They have their own school district, their own road crews, their own trash, their own everything,” Hottle says. “They share water with the city of Columbus, but, other than that, they’re wholly independent.” Bexley City Schools, which has intradistrict open enrollment, includes the top-rated Bexley High School, which has ranked first or second in U.S. News & World Report’s best public high schools in Ohio every year since 2023. Private schools include the top-rated St. Charles Preparatory Academy and Columbus School for Girls.
Also in the city is Capital University, which has over 60 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate degrees. “It is a well-regarded private university on beautiful grounds,” Hottle says.

Walkable streets and public transit make it easy to get around
“Bexley has sidewalks almost every single street,” Barnett says. “It’s highly walkable.” Several residents commute to Columbus for work, with East Main Street offering a 10- to 15-minute drive to downtown. Central Ohio Transit Authority buses also stop along East Main Street. “It is on one of our new corridors that's being developed for bus rapid transit in the next few decades that will serve the entire region,” Hottle says. Once it’s up and running, the BRT will significantly reduce commute time.

Locals spend time at nearby parks and the Franklin Park Conservatory
You can find a number of green spaces in and around Bexley. Jeffrey Park, behind Jeffrey Mansion, includes the Bexley Community Pool, a playground and access to the Alum Creek Trail. This multiuse trail follows the water for nearly 25 miles, connecting plenty of recreational areas. “There are parks along the river and along that trail with tennis and activities and soccer and of all of the things that serve the community,” Hottle says. Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, in the Franklin Park neighborhood, is just one of the stops along the trail. Hottle says that this nonprofit organization connects residents to nature through programming and education. There are over 400 types of plants on display across the gardens, glasshouses and conservatory. It is situated in Franklin Park, which spans 88 acres. Its amenities include a fishing pond, walking paths and a playground.
