Local eateries, with more dining and attractions downtown

The popular, no-frills Eagle's Restaurant has been a community fixture since 1951, serving tasty Southern comfort fare like oxtails, fried pork chops and chicken wings. Another beloved local spot is Niki's West, which has been open since 1957. Pete and Teddy Hontzas took over this old-fashioned Southern buffet from their late father, Gus. P. Hontzas. Downtown Birmingham's plethora of dining options are just a five-minute drive from Evergreen. Many of these places can be found under the roof of the Pizitz Food Hall, where visitors can browse coffee stands, oyster bars, chocolatiers, pizza, pho, gelato and much more. Proximity to downtown also means access to attractions like the Birmingham Museum of Art, City Walk Park, Top Golf and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
