North Birmingham
Modest and affordable early 20th century homes line North Birmingham's streets
Most of North Birmingham’s houses were built in the early 20th century, coinciding with the construction of nearby industrial centers. The Craftsman style was a popular architectural style during that period and is reflected in most North Birmingham homes. Covered porches, simple geometry and open floorplans are standard features of these single-story bungalows and two-story Craftsman homes. There are also a handful of cottages and ranch-style homes. “There’s a lot of older homes up that way,” says Ben Hedden, a Realtor at Bham Realty with over $55 million in total sales. “The low prices are what makes it competitive, but North Birmingham is going to blow up in the next few years with the Carroway development,” referring to the massive commercial and entertainment development happening just south of the neighborhood. Some homes need repairs, while others have recently been renovated. Prices in the area range from $20,000 for a home needing repairs to $190,000 for a renovated Craftsman home.Chain supermarkets and Southern comfort eateries within a few miles of North Birmingham

The Carroway development south of the neighborhood will add new entertainment options, housing and storefronts before 2030.Bordering freeways give quick commutes to Downtown Birmingham
