Curb appeal and comfort in Hedgewood

Hedgewood's charm lies in its older two-story brick homes, well-maintained yards, and tree-lined streets, offering a picturesque setting. "It's got some nice brick houses, and you don’t see many brick houses built anymore in this town,” says Greg Zavitz, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Group. Historically, brick homes in Bloomington represented wealth, with many doctors, lawyers, and other businesspeople choosing to live in them, particularly in Hedgewood in the 20th century. Over time, the construction of brick homes diminished, making the existing ones in Hedgewood revered relics of a bygone era. The neighborhood is full of homes with two to three-car garages, deep driveways, and ample front and backyards with lush grass and trees. Many homes feature planted bushes and there are basketball hoops parked in the front. With sidewalks lining the streets it is a family-friendly environment where children play, and adults take leisurely walks.

McClean County Arts Center celebrates national artists annually

Five miles away is the McLean County Arts Center which has a deep history in Bloomington-Normal, dating back to the 19th century when Mrs. Horace Smith established an art studio. Today the center enriches the community with art exhibits and classes for both children and adults throughout the year. For the past four decades, the arts center has hosted the Sugar Creek Arts Festival over two days in October. This event displays art from 100 artists across the country and features exhibitions, performances, and food vendors, keeping the commitment to art alive as Smith did in the 19th century. Additionally, the center hosts the Spring Bloom Arts Festival in March at Illinois State University's Bone Student Center.
