Quiet community surrounded by Fort Worth

At first glance, Blue Mound looks like just a small section of Fort Worth; however, the community is separate from the metropolitan city. “It’s friendly, it’s hometown. We like to think we have a small town feel even though we’re completely surrounded by Fort Worth, but we have an identity of our own,” says Ellen Ritchie, the library director for the Saginaw Public Library who has lived in the area for eight years. The family-owned restaurants, highly rated schools and more accessible cost of living make the community an attractive area for people looking to be close to Fort Worth. “Blue Mound has a real small-town feel; people wave to each other and say hi when they walk by,” Jon Baker, with NextHome Integrity Group, says. “It is a great place for first-time homebuyers.”

Entry-level bungalows and ranch-style homes

Trees of various shapes and sizes line the streets of Blue Mound, with some large oak trees creating a canopy over nearby homes, while some smaller trees shorter than the homes add color and life to front yards. Many Blue Mound blocks don’t have a sidewalk, and the ones there have enough space for a single person to walk down. Roadways include enough space for vehicles to pass in either direction when no cars park on the street. House prices range from around $185,000 for a bungalow-style home to around $335,000 for a ranch-style home with an attached garage. Most homes built in the mid-to-late 1900s include recent remodeling and fenced-in yards. Houses in the neighborhood sell, on average, after 26 days on the market, compared to the national average of 43. “Prices are more friendly, and there are more entry-level homes than in surrounding areas,” Baker says.

Saginaw High School hosting local events

Blue Mound families may be part of the highly rated Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District. L.A. Gililland Elementary School receives a B from Niche and offers free tutoring for all students. Highland Middle School may be the next stop, earning a B-plus and offering clubs like speech and debate, digital media and theatre clubs. Saginaw High School, an A institution, is a popular site for local events, like the annual Train and Grain festival that celebrates Saginaw’s history.

Golf course designed by a legend

Tennis players and families head to the Blue Mound Community Center and park, offering tennis courts and a playground close to home. The center also hosts private events and parties. Down the street at Alexandra Meadows Park, kids climb and slide down the turquoise and brown playground or hang on tight when spinning on the merry-go-round. Green space with goalposts provides an ideal location for recreational soccer games, while others grill up lunch by the picnic tables and pavilion. The nearby Golf Club at Fossil Creek, one of the premier golf resorts in the Metroplex, offers tee times on one of the last golf courses in the country personally designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer.

Freshly made food and Dino’s Pizza

Dino’s Pizza cooks up freshly made pizza on signature thin crust and wings, making it a dinnertime favorite. Evita’s Mexican Restaurant serves staples like tacos and enchilada platters surrounded by wood walls and colorful sombreros on the walls. Nearby FoodFest Market brings a taste of Ukraine and Eastern Europe to the Fort Worth area, with cultural elements and a deli providing a unique grocery shopping experience. Shopping at grocery stores like Kroger, ALDI, and a Walmart Supercenter requires hopping the car and driving about five miles northwest. Target and other big-name retailers are a few miles up Interstate 35 West.

Ten miles to downtown Fort Worth

Blue Mound, being almost entirely surrounded by Fort Worth, makes transportation to areas in the city a breeze. Interstate 35 West leads to downtown Fort Worth, about ten miles away. “As part of the Fort Worth area, there’s so much to do here. We’ve got it all,” Ritchie says. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is about 22 miles away, while the Fort Worth Meacham International Airport is four miles away. Blue Mound’s limited public transportation options make having a car necessary for most errands and commuting.
