Bogart is a quiet community just outside of Athens
Bogart offers a mix of rural and suburban living just west of the Athens Perimeter. While the college town's amenities are close, Bogart locals appreciate a local farm and a general store that engage the community. “There are not really a lot of restaurants or shopping,” says local Realtor Julie Moon of Corcoran Classic Living. She’s sold homes across the region for over a decade. “You would choose Bogart for a quiet place to live. It’s a little bit more affordable the farther you are from the city.” It’s predominantly residential and zoned for one of the highest-rated school districts in Georgia, which Moon says is a major draw.
Small estates in Bogart often sit on two or more acres.

A mix of established homes and new construction
Bogart has varied housing options. “Oconee County, in general, is comprised of neighborhoods as well as larger farms and small estates,” Moon says. “You’ll find construction from the 1970s all the way to now,” Moon says. Subdivisions like Keeneland feature brick, contemporary and New Traditional homes built across the 1990s and early 2000s. Several recently constructed homes, including contemporary colonials, fill subdivisions like Piper Glen. Ranch-style homes built in the late 20th century are scattered across the community. Most homes in subdivisions sit on quarter to half-acre lots, but several properties measure at least two acres; farms fill the community’s outskirts. The median sale price for a home in Bogart is around $550,000. Bogart has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Oconee County Schools earns high remarks on Niche
Oconee County Schools is one of the highest-rated districts in the state; Niche gives it an A-plus and ranks it the second-best in Georgia. Malcom Bridge Elementary School, the highest-ranked elementary school in the Athens area, and Malcom Bridge Middle both score an A. North Oconee High School’s counseling department helps prepare students for post-secondary education by scheduling senior check-in meetings, encouraging them to attend PROBE college fairs and applying for scholarships. Niche gives the high school an A-plus. Bogart is also partially served by the Clarke County School District, which Niche gives a B.

Local sports and a nearby fishing spot
The Bogart Sports Complex sprawls across 33 acres at the heart of the community. It features several baseball and multi-use fields adorned with stadium lights and a few sets of bleachers. The complex also has a playground, a paved walking trail and a pavilion with a couple of picnic tables. The Bogart Community Center, located across the street from the sports complex, offers space and a full-service kitchen for rent. Bear Creek Reservoir is about 5 miles north of the community center. Swimming isn’t allowed, so it’s mainly a fishing spot, and the reservoir is stocked with crappie, bass and catfish. A boat ramp is available to the public, and a designated fishing area allows anglers to cast a line from the shore. Locals also enjoy seasonal activities at Washington Farms, which are open in the spring and fall. Activities include a corn maze, jumping pillow and mega slide. Moon says it’s a popular spot to bring the kids.

Bogart has a few restaurants and a popular general store
Bogart has a couple of general markets and restaurants. Stripling’s General Store operates a full-service butcher shop with the motto, “You never sausage a place.” The store is known for its sausage and jerky, but also offers spices, cakes, sandwiches and additional groceries. “It’s an old-fashioned general store that people like to go to,” Moon says. “They make locally sourced foods as well as a bunch of different things.” La Cabana Mexican Restaurant serves slow-cooked meats and sizable margaritas, and Fox’s Pizza Den has build-your-own pizzas and subs. Locals head east toward Athens for additional shopping and dining needs. Sam’s Club is about 3 miles away, and Publix is 5 miles east.
