Residents of Boiling Spring Lakes enjoy swimming beaches and other amenities
Boiling Spring Lakes is a town in North Carolina’s Brunswick County that is home to about 6,000 people. It was incorporated in 1961 and named for a spring discovered by its founders. It discharges an estimated 43 million gallons of water a day. “There are tons of amenities,” says Christina Campbell, a resident and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Seacoast Advantage. The area is known for its more than 50 lakes and numerous swimming beaches.
New homes and older neighborhoods
The median price is about $324,000. “There’s a ton of new construction,” Campbell says. But there are also more established neighborhoods with large, wooded lots, including around the area’s many lakes. Styles include traditional homes, cottages and ranch-style houses. Most of the neighborhoods’ narrow streets have no sidewalks. There is also much room for development in the town and many plots of land are for sale.
Water aerobics and summer concerts at the lakes
The community has five public swimming beaches. “Right now the big lake does not have water in it,” Campbell says. The area was hit by a storm and repairs are ongoing, with expected completion in 2027. But Spring Lake Park is open and has a swimming beach. The park offers water aerobics classes and hosts a free summer concert series on Fridays. Other public beaches include those at Mirror Lake and Seminole Lake. Robert G. Muse Memorial Park has a playground. The Lakes Golf Club is a public golf course.
Zoned for Brunswick County school district
Children in the community are zoned for Brunswick County Schools. Bolivia Elementary School, South Brunswick Middle School and South Brunswick High School are all rated B on Niche. The middle school and high school are both located within the town. The county also has several private schools.
Heading to Southport or Oak Island for shopping and dining
Most residents leave the town for their shopping and dining needs, though there are a couple of options in Boiling Spring Lakes, including The Pepperoni Grill BSL, a pizza shop. Other options are found 8 miles away in Southport or 15 miles away on Oak Island. Oliver's On The Cape Fear is an upscale seafood restaurant and Royal James is a popular tiki bar. Both are in Southport, which also has grocery and retail stores. On Oak Island, 49th Street Grill Bar & Patio and Solar Brewery are popular options.
Transportation and flood risk in Boiling Spring Lakes
North Carolina Highway 87 passes cuts through the center of the town. Wilmington is 22 miles northeast. A railroad track crosses the community in the eastern half of the town.
The area is considered to be at major risk from flooding, according to the climate modeling website First Street. Close to 30% of properties in the town are at risk of flooding over the next 30 years. The community was impacted by Hurricane Florence in 2018.
