Recreation on land or sea
Wonder Gardens borders the neighborhood’s eastern edge and features more than 300 animal inhabitants, including sulcata tortoises and red-shouldered hawks. The Garden opened in 1936 and has sought to protect and highlight the ecosystem ever since. The City of Bonita Springs offers a community pool and indoor recreation center. Membership is available to all residents. Canine companions can also get in on the fun at the nearby Bonita Springs Dog Park. Golfers flock to the Bonita Fairways Golf Course, the only public course in Bonita Springs. And, of course, a day on the beach is never far as the lapping shores of Bonita Beach Park are only 8 miles away.Riverside Park’s year-round events
Riverside Park is in the heart of downtown and features several amenities, including artist cottages, a bandshell and a veteran’s brick walkway and memorial. The expansive green space also hosts year-round events put on by the City of Bonita Springs. The Bonita Springs Concert Band consists of local area musicians and plays monthly shows in the bandshell. Free admission encourages all to catch a classical or rock music performance. Other celebrations include Holiday in the Park and Halloween in the Park. For an indoor venue, The Bonita Performing Arts Center sits in the neighborhood and features a calendar full of art exhibitions, national touring acts and Broadway musicals.Downtown Bonita Springs’s redevelopment
Recent efforts to redevelop downtown Bonita Springs have brought a wave of commercial and retail activity to Old 41 Road. Early birds start their day at Dolly’s Produce Patch and Eatery, known for its biscuits and gravy and homemade pies. The Rooftop at Riverside is a popular two-story bar offering cold cocktails and various cuisine options from famous Southwest Florida food trucks. Nearby, Chartreuse Craft Cocktail Lounge keeps the party going with its collection of seasonal, classic and tiki-inspired drinks. Buffalo Chips, opened in 1982, is one of the few Bonita Springs staples and features a menu of classic American fare. Down the street, For Heaven Shakes Ice Cream has dessert covered. Shangri-La Springs is a historic hotel and spa built upon a flowing mineral spring from which the town got its name. Initially opened in 1921, the hotel has seen numerous famous visitors walk through its halls, including Thomas Edison and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Publix Super Market at Bonita Bay Plaza offers weekly groceries, while retail shopping can be found at Coconut Point, 6 miles away.Waterfront properties on the Imperial River
“Heitmans is older and more established, so the lots are typically larger than new developments,” Kuchar says. “It's nice because you’re not hugging your neighbor.” Newer waterfront property is available, and many feature coastal contemporary and Spanish-Revival style architecture. These properties range between $800,000 and $1.2 million and offer direct gulf access via the Imperial River. Florida Ranch-style houses and smaller tropical bungalows tend to occupy the dry lots, costing between $350,000 and $600,000. Empty plots of land are available for those looking to build their dream home and cost between $55,000 and $900,000, depending on their location. Spanish-inspired townhouses and condos range from $250,000 to $400,000. No matter where homebuyers end up, they will land in a neighborhood that offers value compared to other areas of Southwest Florida. “Naples prices going through the roof,” says Josh Emberg, local broker associate with Amerivest Realty. “Heitmans is becoming a much more viable option for a lot of people.”Different elective courses at Bonita Springs Middle Center for the Arts
