Spanish Wells
Golf at the Spanish Wells Country Club
Spanish Wells Golf and Country Club, the hub for recreation, features 27 holes of championship-level golf that wind through water features, sand bunkers and mature palm trees. The country club also offers 3 Har-Tru tennis courts, a heated tropical swimming pool, and a recently renovated 32,0000-square-foot clubhouse. Membership in the club is optional for residents, and different levels are available. Bonita Community Park is 3.5 miles away and has numerous athletic facilities ranging from disc golf to baseball diamonds. And, of course, a day on the beach is never far as the lapping shores of Bonita Beach Park are just 2 miles away. Residents enjoy launching a paddleboard or just kicking their feet back to bask in the year-round sunshine of Southwest Florida. Barefoot Beach is nearby, and while it may be a little hard to find, it offers a more intimate beachfront setting. “Getting there, you have to drive through what looks like a closed-off community,” says Dirk Fischer, real estate broker and owner of 5th Homes. “But it’s the most beautiful beach in Southwest Florida; it's really a hidden gem.”Spanish-Revival styled homes
The neighborhood’s housing is built around the golf course and features a variety of single-family and multifamily options. Spanish-Revival is the predominant architectural style, and many homes feature stucco exteriors with tiled roofs. Screened-in swimming pools are common in the backyard and often come with scenic views of rolling fairways and glistening ponds. Front yards have well-manicured landscaping, and towering palm trees provide shade for residents strolling down sidewalks. Multifamily options include condos and coach homes, and prices range between $400,000 and $600,000. Three-bedroom single-family houses sell from $700,000 to $1 million, although the price has increased in recent years. “After 2021, prices here shot up,” Fischer says. “With all the improvements to the community, the neighborhood really started gaining traction from the outside public.”Grab a bite at The Pub & Dining Room
The Pub & Dining Room is in the neighborhood and features a full menu of classic American fare. Pinchers Crab Shack is a popular restaurant nearby known for its fresh seafood and great happy hours. Down the street, early birds start their day with a tasty breakfast at Bernie’s City Diner. Publix Super Market provides weekly groceries to the area while farther shopping and dining can be found at Mercato, 7 miles away. The open-air retail center features upscale dining, name-brand retailers and entertainment centers like Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Downtown Bonita Springs has also experienced revitalization in recent years and offers a new set of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops that are becoming popular spots for a night out. First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs is one of numerous houses of worship serving the area.Events at the clubhouse
Spanish Wells Country Club’s clubhouse features a full calendar of events, ranging from musical bingo to trivia night. The Labor Day Golf Tournament & BBQ is one of the numerous invitationals held on the course throughout the year. Residents are also close to popular events put on by the City of Bonita Springs at Riverside Park. The annual Bonita Springs National Arts Festival takes place over three weekends in the winter and displays creative endeavors from local and national artists.Bonita Springs Elementary has historical significance
The Lee County School District serves the neighborhood and offers open enrollment, meaning parents decide which public school their children attend. One path has students starting at Bonita Springs Elementary, which receives a B-minus rating on Niche. The school was first built in 1921, and part of the original brick structure remains, making it the only property in Bonita Springs listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Bonita Spring Middle Center for the Arts receives a B rating and offers various elective courses, including creative writing and exploring music. The B-minus-rated Bonita Springs High School has four different career academies. Royal Palm Academy is a highly rated private institution nearby.Travel throughout Southwest Florida
Golf carts and walking are the preferred methods of transportation. Tamiami Trail runs parallel and connects to downtown Fort Myers, 30 miles to the north. Alternatively, downtown Naples is 14 miles to the south. Lee County Public Transportation services numerous bus routes in the area. Those traveling farther are 18 miles from Southwest Florida International Airport, which offers multiple domestic and international destinations. NCH North Naples Campus is the closest hospital, 6 miles away.Hurricane Risk
Southwest Florida is prone to hurricanes and received a direct hit from Hurricane Ian in 2022. However, Spanish Well’s inland location protected from the Category 5 storms extensive damage. “It stood through Hurricane Ian very well,” Fischer says. “Being west of Route 41 is always a good idea, and many people learned that after the storm.”
