Rural homes with connection to nearby towns
The Sandy River neighborhood stretches across miles of farmland and natural space between the towns of Troutdale and Boring. Close to expansive natural areas with access to the Sandy River, homes come with acreage for all sorts of outdoor activities. “People have horses. They like to have gardens and some room to enjoy time outside,” says Adriane Bovero, the owner of All County Real Estate. “A lot of people out there have four-wheelers, dirt bikes or mountain bikes.” Though the neighborhood offers a lifestyle that is at one with nature, it’s still connected to nearby Gresham and the larger Portland metro area.

Sandy River beaches in Oxbow Regional Park
Though the Sandy River neighborhood is conveniently connected to the suburban communities of Gresham and Troutdale, rugged Oregon nature is just beyond its backdoor. The Sandy River hugs Oxbow Regional Park, which has 12 miles of old-growth forest trails, where moss and fern climb the endless trunks of evergreen trees. “It’s a beautiful park with lots of forested areas, some great picnic areas for larger gatherings and access to the wild and scenic Sandy River,” says Hannah Erickson, the communications specialist for Metro Parks and Nature. The Sandy River carries snowmelt and glacial till from Mount Hood, supporting an ecosystem of creatures big and small, from snails to mink, beavers, deer and black bears. The rocky beaches of the river are a summer destination, where swimmers can clamber up larger rocks in the water to dry off in the Oregon sun.
