A growing entertainment area along Red River
Once called “Old Bossier,” the East Bank District is a revitalized entertainment area where locals can comfortably walk to an outdoor mall, casinos, breweries and a festival plaza. Bossier City and the city of Shreveport invested heavily in the downtown district in the 2010s, transforming it into one of Northwest Louisiana’s premier destinations. “Locals who have been here all their lives, they’ve seen the evolution from a forgotten area that had taken a back seat to now, the boardwalk and the casinos, which have created a brand-new life,” says Brittainy Pope, Executive Director for the Bossier Arts Council, which has been based in East Bank since the 1980s. The area has a crime score of 9 on the CAP index, likely due to the presence of casinos and nightlife. As businesses and entertainment centers have expanded in the area, permanent East Bank residents have congregated in a few residential streets that have remained in the downtown area for generations.
The area's casinos attract both locals and tourists seeking an exciting night out.
The Boardwalk in the Entertainment District serves as a centerpiece shopping and dining.

Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets spans for miles
Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets, an open-air shopping complex along Boardwalk Boulevard, has been a favorite for locals since it opened in 2005. Guests stroll along the Boardwalk Promenade to shop at the 850,000-square-foot mall and take in the sight of the Bakowski Bridge, a 7,000-foot neon sculpture that spans the Red River. To end the night, visitors can head to the Horseshoe or Margaritaville casinos along the riverbank to keep the party going.
The boardwalk is not residents’ only option for shopping or dining. Several local businesses have set up shop along Barksdale Boulevard, including Sugar Sheaux, a bakery, and brewhouses like Flying Heart Brewing and Pub and BeauxJax Crafthouse. BeuaxJax also operates two additional restaurants on Barksdale, Chef’s Table and Frozen Pirogue. Locals can drive up to Airline Drive to find a string of everyday necessities like Target, Sam’s Club, Kroger and Walmart along the same street.
The Boardwalk in the Entertainment District is a shoppers paradise while visiting.
Beauxjax Craft House is located in the Eastbank District, offering casual dining.

Interstate 20 connects both sides of Red River
I-20 runs directly through East Bank, providing a high-speed way to reach other parts of Shreveport. SporTran also serves the areas with multiple routes along the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway, Hamilton Road and Traffic Street. East Bank is only 4 miles away from the small Shreveport Downtown Airport, a partner facility to the larger Shreveport Regional Airport which is 9 miles away.
Kegs & Corks celebrates Bossier City’s breweries
Bossier City and Shreveport have a year-long calendar of festivals. Shreveport’s Krewe of Gemini holds a massive Mardi Gras parade along the Clyde Fant Parkway, and the Kegs & Corks festival takes over Barksdale Boulevard in May for an afternoon of beer and wine tastings. During November and December, the Holiday Trail of Lights is filled with fireworks, festival nights, and a seasonal light display along the Bakowski Bridge.
Veteran Park offers a vantage point of the river
Locals just need to cross Red River to reach Veterans Park, a large green space along Clyde Fant Parkway. This park houses a disc golf course, a soccer field and a skate park, all with scenic views of the river. Also across the river are the Sci-Port Discovery Center and Shreveport Aquarium, two family-friendly attractions that can be enjoyed rain or shine. Both institutions are within walking distance of each other along Clyde Fant Parkway.
The local skatepark has ramps and rails for new or seasoned skaters.
Frisbee golf at Veterans park offers a mix of strategy and fun in a relaxed environment.

East Bank’s fixer-uppers have been around for generations
Homes in the district are a mix of well-kept bungalows, Craftsman cottages and ranch-style houses built between the 1930s and 1980s. These available homes are in tight clusters away from the entertainment portion of the neighborhood. “People still live on the East Bank, but there are not a lot of residences that have been left standing,” Pope says. “They’re kind of on the edges, and they were older homes with no businesses there.” Around these residences are small, kept lawns filled with towering magnolia trees that provide natural shade. Prices in East Bank range from $25,000 for a fixer-upper under 1,000 square feet to $150,000 for a well-maintained 3-bedroom bungalow.
The neighborhood features a mix of modern and historic homes, adding to its charm.
