Echos of history throughout Charlestown
Charlestown, Boston’s oldest neighborhood, is a hub for community-centric living minutes away from downtown. The Thompson Square-Bunker Hill community is a large part of the area and offers Revolutionary-era attractions like the Bunker Hill Monument and Museum and the historic Warren Tavern. The streets echo the history of Boston and Charlestown, and narrow walkways join brick sidewalks that line the fronts of landmark brownstone homes and rowhouses. The area also provides over a dozen parks and public schools right next to dining and shopping options, so residents often do not have to head across the river to downtown Boston. With so many ways to experience the history and growth of the Thompson Square-Bunker Hill area, it is easy to see why its motto is ‘Where bright futures begin.’
Dozens of greenery options in Charlestown
With almost a dozen parks inside Charlestown’s borders, there’s no shortage of available greenspace for residents of the Thompson Square-Bunker Hill neighborhood. John Harvard Mall and City Square Park offer places to sit and enjoy any of Boston’s four seasons, read a book or chat with friends. Doherty Park offers recreation for kids of all ages with a large playset and pool. Residents can also explore the abundant green spaces and playset or enjoy a pint at the local beer garden at the nearby Charleston Naval Shipyard Park. In the center of the neighborhood, the Bunker Hill monument commemorates the Battle of Bunker Hill, one of the first major battles during the Revolutionary War. The 221-foot obelisk that marks the site can be seen throughout many areas of Boston, as it used to be the tallest structure in the city. Across the street from the monument lies the Bunker Hill Museum, where residents can learn about the battle's history and Charlestown.

Both Historic and new dining options
Main Street runs through the center of the Thompson Square-Bunker Hill community, where many local businesses, restaurants and cafes are concentrated. Warren Tavern was built in 1780 and is the oldest working tavern in Massachusetts. Some of its more notable patrons include historical figures like Paul Revere, but today the tavern is a local favorite for burgers and other pub classics like fish & chips. “It is definitely one of the older and more well-known spots in the area,” says Martha Toti, a senior sales associate with Coldwell Banker who has been serving the community for over 13 years. The Monument Restaurant and Tavern, named after the famous Bunker Hill monument, is a newer spot in the area that offers an expansive bar and gastropub fare in an antique brick and wood setting. Residents can stock up the pantry at the local Whole Foods.
