Iconic triple-deckers in Upham's Corner
The diverse and historic neighborhood mostly consists of triple-decker buildings and multi-families dating back to the late 1800s. Often listing between $400,000 and $800,000, condos and individual units in these properties can have pillared balconies, bay windows or partially rounded exteriors derived from Queen Anne influences. While recent developments can fetch from $650,000 to $1 million, these new buildings blend well with the community’s overall landscape by adopting similar architectural aesthetics and height. Two-bedroom townhouses from the late 1980s go for about $450,000, and those from the 2000s are about $700,000. Most residences don’t have yard space, and street parking with residential permits is the norm. As a pretty walkable neighborhood, most streets are connected by sidewalks and lined by honey locusts and maple trees.Outdoor opportunities at the waterfront Moakley Park and Carson Beach
Several pocket parks, including Downer Avenue Playground, Allen Park and Coleman Garden, are situated throughout Upham’s Corner. Sitting across from Interstate 93, Savin Hill Park has tennis and basketball courts. People also like to walk their dogs here and watch the sunset. The adjacent McConnell Park offers a playground, a sports field and views of Savin Hill Beach. There’s also a boardwalk along the shoreline, making it a popular place for walks. Less than 1 mile north, another beachfront spot, Moakley Park, has sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, a roller hockey rink and a playground. People can also sunbathe or swim at Carson Beach and watch boats sail by at Dorchester Bay Basin and Savin Hill Cove. Ronan Park is south of the area and has a dog park and basketball courts.Boston Public Schools
Boston’s public school system is enrolled in school choice, which gives students more options for enrollment. Prospective primary schools include Everett Elementary School, Mather Elementary School, located on the historic Meeting House Hill and the country’s first public elementary school, and Russell Elementary School, all of which score a C-plus Niche grade. Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School has a C and offers the AVID program with after-school and Saturday tutoring sessions. Burke High School rates a C-plus and partners with the University of Massachusetts, Boston, to provide dual enrollment courses for its students. With over 100 majors of study, the research university has a campus right by Upham’s Corner.Night markets and street festivals in Dorchester
In Dorchester, hundreds of vendors and performers gather along Dorchester Avenue to celebrate Boston’s Open Streets Festival. The Boston Little Saigon Night Market event, which takes place 2 miles south of the area, includes Vietnamese street food, family activities and photo opportunities. Another event to highlight is the Boston Art & Music Soul (BAMS) Festival, a two-day event with food trucks and live acts from some of the most well-known names in the industry, including BJ the Chicago Kid. The Uphams Corner branch of the Boston Public Library regularly hosts sewing classes, puppet shows and investment courses for adults.

Those who drive can expect a short 3.5-mile trip to Boston, and Cambridge is across the Charles River and 8 miles north via Interstate 90. While the neighborhood is quite walkable, people still rely on cars, bikes or public transportation such as rail and bus services provided by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, for errands outside the area. The Boston Medical Center is less than 2 miles away.A lively food scene along Dorchester Avenue
Several popular eateries and markets dot the neighborhood, and residents are steps away from Dorchester Avenue, which is lined with lively cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating. Located along Dudley Street, Brother’s Supermarket is known for its fresh produce and meat selections, Spanish cooking ingredients and deli counter. Dorchester Avenue is home to the Vietnamese establishment Ba Le and the Asian grocery store Phú Cu?ng Market.
