Foxhill is a quaint suburb close to Bowie shopping centers

Foxhill is part of Bowie 's Belair Development, a group of seven planned communities built by Levitt & Sons, a homebuilder synonymous with the post-World War II suburban building style. “Bowie is divided into 11 or 12 different subdivisions, like Foxhill, Somerset and Kenilworth , with home styles that are fairly identical to the other sections,” says Bill Franklin, a real estate broker and team leader with Long & Foster with over 30 years of experience serving the Delmarva region. “It’s a pretty good market here because the homes are priced well compared to Prince George’s County.” Buyers can find midcentury single-family homes just minutes away from Bowie Town Center for shopping runs and U.S. Route 50 for commutes to the nation’s capital.

Fun at Foxhill Park, and tours at Belair Mansion

Foxhill Park features a playground, picnic pavilion, tennis courts and a walking trail beside Woodward Pond. The members-only Belair Bath & Tennis Club sits on the grounds of the Belair Mansion and offers a playground, lighted tennis and pickleball courts, a dining area, and a pool where the Dolphins youth swim teams compete against other local clubs. The Belair Mansion is an 18th-century Georgian estate within Foxhill, that has, over its history, served as a plantation house, a residence of Colonial governors and eventually a farm for thoroughbred horses in the early 1900s. Today, guests can tour the mansion and visit the Belair Stable Museum, which details the history of horse racing in the area.

Postwar single-family homes on the market

A drive through Foxhill reveals Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods, mostly built in the mid-1960s. The neighborhood has classic suburban curb appeal, with organized, tree-lined streets and home prices that range from $440,000 to $600,000, varying by square footage and remodel status. “Buyers will keep the homes the same, but they do upgrades,” says Franklin. “Most of the homes Levitt built in the 60s, and homeowners have since done upgrades as far as HVAC, roof work and siding.”

Nearby Prince George's County schools

Prince George’s County Public Schools is the district serving Foxhill. Students can attend Tulip Grove Elementary School, Benjamin Tasker Middle and Bowie High School, which all receive B-minus ratings from Niche. Tasker Middle School offers a Talented and Gifted Center, also called the TAG Center. The program offers opportunities for high-achieving students to attend STEM fairs, receive individualized tutoring in core subjects and enroll in high school-level courses.

Locals can shop along Annapolis Road or head to Bowie Town Center

Strip malls, such as Bowie Marketplace, line Annapolis Road less than two miles north. Locals can shop at Harris Teeter and Giant for groceries or browse department stores like Ross and T.J. Maxx. Blue Sunday Bar & Grill is a gastropub serving craft cocktails, sushi and surf-and-turf entrees. There’s also Bowie Town Center, an outdoor mall to the south with over 70 retailers and restaurants, including a Macy’s and Best Buy.

D.C., Baltimore and Annapolis are less than an hour away

Commuters can take U.S. Route 50 to Washington , an 18-mile drive west, and Annapolis , a 16-mile drive east. The New Carrollton Metro station is eight miles west, where commuters can catch Amtrak trains to destinations up and down the East Coast or take local Orange and Silver Line trains to D.C., Virginia and Maryland. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is 22 miles away, and Baltimore/Washington International Airport is 29 miles north.
