Northview is near some of Bowie’s most popular green spaces. Allen Pond Park has a walking trail where joggers loop around the water and anglers go fishing. Locals can rent paddle boats to spend an afternoon on the pond or eat lunch at a shaded picnic table. Kids run around the playground, practice tricks at the skate park and join pickup games at the basketball court. The park also hosts Bowiefest, a city-wide event that’s always held on the first Saturday in June and has live music, pony rides, local vendors and dance performances. Nearby, there’s also the indoor Bowie Ice Arena, where residents can take skating lessons or join recreational hockey teams. Dog owners take their pets to the Bowie Dog Park, which has a separate off-leash area for small and large dogs.Less than 3 miles from Northview is the Prince George’s Stadium, where baseball fans go to cheer on the Chesapeake Baysox. “The Baysox are our local minor league baseball team,” says Bill Franklin, a broker with Long & Foster Real Estate who’s served Bowie for decades. “They’ll have fireworks all summer; people love going to their games. There’s always a big turnout.”

Some residential roads have sidewalks, allowing people to walk to bus stops operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Buses take residents around Bowie. A major draw to the neighborhood is its central location, as most people commute out of town for work. “A lot of government employees live in the area because, with Route 50, they have direct access to D.C.,” Franklin says. The neighborhood is about a mile from U.S. Route 50, which takes commuters 20 miles southwest to Washington, D.C. The same route goes 16 miles northeast to Annapolis, Maryland. Drivers headed to Baltimore have a 30-mile trip north.Shopping and dining at Bowie Town Center
The neighborhood is only a mile from Bowie Town Center, one of the city’s major shopping and dining areas. Here, locals find a large collection of chain restaurants, like Panera Bread, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Longhorn Steakhouse and BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. Among them are more regional chains like Sardi's Pollo A La Brasa, where patrons order Peruvian chicken, fried rice and sandwiches. There’s also the Twisted Crab, a casual seafood eatery that serves Cajun wings and customized seafood boils. Shoppers walk through the retail center, perusing retailers like Macy’s, Bath & Body Works, Barnes & Noble and Lane Bryant. For groceries, there’s Safeway. Other resources are also close by; the UM Bowie Health Center is also a mile north of Northview. Bowie Town Center is often where the community congregates for seasonal events, like the Christmas market, where residents support local artisans as they shop for gifts.
