Overbrook
Suburban homes from the 1960s with access to Bowie city services
Overbrook is full of single-family homes built in the 1960s, usually priced from $420,000 to $550,000. Cape Cods, split-levels and brick ranch-style homes are available along narrow residential streets, with moderate tree cover over most lawns. Attached garages and straight driveways are also standard home features. "For those older communities like Overbrook, there are no HOAs whatsoever; the city provides a lot of services, [it's] one of the few municipalities with garbage collection twice a week, [plus] they take care of parks," says Franklin. "If you aren't mowing your grass or your fence is busted, they'll send you a citation."Close to restaurants and retailers in Bowie or Crofton
Residents can drive a mile south on Race Track Road to Hilltop Plaza, which has an Aldi and Mom's Organic Market for groceries, while next door are retailers like Ross and T.J. Maxx. A mile east is Priest Bridge Centre in neighboring Crofton, which hosts Nonna Angela's Italian Bistro, serving lobster ravioli and penne alla vodka. Bowie Town Center is the city's largest mall, just 6 miles south of home, with a Macy's, Men's Wearhouse and a Safeway.Access to Washington, D.C., by car or train
Commuters can take U.S. Route 50 just 23 miles west to reach Washington, D.C., or 18 miles east to reach Annapolis. The Bowie State University train station is less than 3 miles north of Overbrook for regional MARC trains or Amtrak rides up and down the East Coast. Locals are 27 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington Airport to the south or 23 miles from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to the north for domestic or international flights. WMATA Metrobuses stop along Race Track Road and Annapolis Road for public transit options.Yorktown Elementary has a talented and gifted program
Prince George's County Public Schools is Overbrook's main school district. Students can attend Yorktown Elementary, Samuel Ogle Middle and Bowie High, all of which have Niche ratings of B-minus. Yorktown Elementary offers a talented and gifted program for eligible students to get resources and accelerated instruction focused on their academic strengths.Samuel Ogle Park and connection to the Washington Baltimore and Annapolis Trail
Samuel Ogle Park is west of the neighborhood and features soccer and baseball fields and tennis and basketball courts. Just off Race Track Road is a trailhead for the Washington Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, a paved multipurpose path that runs more than 5 miles through Bowie along what used to be railroad tracks. A longstanding city landmark is less than a mile north of Overbrook. When the area was best known for horse racing and other equestrian sports, Bowie Racetrack would draw crowds. In 2025, the city took ownership of the racetrack, and there are ongoing community meetings to discuss how the space should be transformed to meet residents' needs.
