Small Bowie enclave priced right for first-time homebuyers
In Bowie's northeast corner, the 7-block suburban community of Overbrook has close access to both Crofton and Bowie Town Center for convenient shopping runs and Friday night dinners. "[The] homes are a good value for the area, they are priced great for first-time homebuyers, [there's a] good community. It is also appealing being part of an incorporated town, and they govern themselves extremely well," says Bill Franklin, a former Bowie local and Team Leader at Bill Franklin Real Estate Group with Long & Foster Real Estate. Many people who live in Bowie work in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, or Annapolis, and Overbrook is no different, so the neighborhood's nearness to highways and a train station are also benefits.
Ranches and split-levels line many an Overbrook street.
Overbrook is entirely residential, but it isn't far from shopping hubs in the rest of Bowie.

Suburban homes from the 1960s with access to Bowie city services
Overbrook is full of single-family homes built in the 1960s, usually priced from $420,000 to $550,000. Cape Cods, split-levels and brick ranch-style homes are available along narrow residential streets, with moderate tree cover over most lawns. Attached garages and straight driveways are also standard home features. "For those older communities like Overbrook, there are no HOAs whatsoever; the city provides a lot of services, [it's] one of the few municipalities with garbage collection twice a week, [plus] they take care of parks," says Franklin. "If you aren't mowing your grass or your fence is busted, they'll send you a citation."
Colonial revivals and homes with cross-gabled roofs are common in Overbrook.

Just off Race Track Road is a trailhead for the Washington Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, a paved multipurpose path that runs more than 5 miles through Bowie along what used to be railroad tracks. A longstanding city landmark is less than a mile north of Overbrook. When the area was best known for horse racing and other equestrian sports, Bowie Racetrack would draw crowds. In 2025, the city took ownership of the racetrack, and there are ongoing community meetings to discuss how the space should be transformed to meet residents' needs.
