Tall Oaks Crossing has a CAP Index Crime score of 1 out of 10, which is lower than the national average score of 4.Walking trails, sports courts and an amusement park near Tall Oaks Crossing
The neighborhood association manages community amenities, like a playground where younger kids run around and nature trails for joggers and cyclists. Neighbors can also meet for tennis matches on the neighborhood’s courts or go fishing in the small man-made lake. “Most people are within walking distance of the small neighborhood parks, but then they’ll drive to Bowie’s bigger parks, too,” says Krista Blase, a lifelong Bowie resident. Allen Pond Park is one of the most notable in Bowie. Located about 4 miles north of the neighborhood, the green space is popular for its walking trails and fishing spots around the stocked freshwater pond. A sprawling playground, skate park, baseball fields and basketball courts are also at the park, and Bowie’s indoor ice arena is nearby. For more adventurous days, locals drive about 4 miles west to Six Flags America, a large amusement park with high-speed roller coasters, colorful thrill rides and a water park called Hurricane Harbor. During the fall, spooky, costumed characters take the park for Fright Fest, a Halloween event with mazes and jump scares. There are more low-key activities as well. “The Boys and Girls Club is active in Bowie. Lots of kids get involved in their programs,” Franklin says. Through the program, kids and teenagers can play sports like soccer, softball and basketball. At the South Bowie library branch, under a mile south of Tall Oaks Crossing, residents bring their toddlers for story hours, older kids enjoy seasonal crafting sessions, and people of all ages head to family game nights and technology education programs.Retail stores and chain restaurants at Bowie Town Center

Here, they can grab a bite from national chains like Olive Garden, Chipotle, Red Robin, and more. Alongside these are some local favorites like Jerry’s Seafood, where people order a variety of classic seafood dishes, including crab cakes, fried shrimp and fresh scallops. For comfort fare, there’s Rips Country Inn, a rustic eatery with a liquor store and deli in the same building. Nearby, shoppers pick up groceries from Safeway, grab essentials from big box stores like Walmart and Lowe’s and browse department stores like Kohl’s and Macy’s.Career preparation programs at Bowie High School
