Delafield is experiencing new life outside downtown Bowling Green

After decades of tough times, Delafield is starting to experience a revival. "The Delafield area is an old section of Bowling Green. It's an area that has had a lot of renovation and is growing and getting better," says Lloyd Ferguson, broker and auctioneer at Vetter City Real Estate, who has been in the industry since 1973. This neighborhood is just outside downtown Bowling Green and bound by the Barren River and rolling hills to the north. It has a history as a blue-collar community, with jobs available at nearby warehouses and factories, like the Houchens Industries facility. Residents know that Delafield has been a neglected community in the past, but investment from nonprofit organizations, community centers and renovated homes are contributing to its growth.

Homes range from modest cottages to modern bungalows

Delafield consists primarily of ranch-style homes and modest cottages on small lots. Many houses were built in the first half of the 20th century before development picked up again in the 1980s. Buyers can find a mix of fixer-uppers and investment properties alongside renovated homes that include new flooring and paint. These typically cost between $100,000 and $195,000. Newer homes from the 21st century, often brick townhouses or bungalows, can be found south of Kentucky Street. There are also some older properties here that are well taken care of. Homes south of Kentucky Street range from $250,000 to $730,000. The area also has lots of apartments and public housing.

Bowling Green's parks offer lots of recreation

Several parks and natural sites provide plenty of room for fun. "It's rural the more you get away from town. We have the Barren River that flows through our county, and there are some beautiful spots. Delafield is kind of like a downtown suburb, and just past it, you'll see some nice rolling land with trees and the river," Ferguson says. Boatlanding Park has a public boat ramp, making it an ideal spot to start a day of paddling or fishing from the banks. Hobson Grove Park is a large green space on the neighborhood's west side with a nine-hole golf course, the historic Hobson House and walking trails. Residents can visit Roland Bland Park for its large accessible playground, basketball courts and pickleball courts. It's also home to the Bowling Green Skate Park, which is available for use by skates or BMX bikes. For a full day of activity, Beech Bend is an amusement park about 3 miles from the neighborhood.
