Downtown Bowling Green is the heart of the Corvette homeland
On the national stage, Bowling Green, Kentucky, is mainly known for its contribution to American hot rod culture. All models of the Chevrolet Corvette have been manufactured here since 1981, and the National Corvette Museum draws crowds of awestruck gearheads throughout the year. Downtown Bowling Green, hemmed in by a ring of highways, is the beating urban heart of this town. The historic homes that line the streets remind residents of the city's long heritage, while Western Kentucky University draws students who infuse new life regularly into its culture. Its moderately busy urban streets are a hotbed of local music, live sports and performing arts, while the residential community retains the slow-paced charm of a South Central Kentucky town.

Renovated historic homes on small city lots
The small city lots of Downtown Bowling Green are occupied mainly by Craftsman cottages, American Foursquares and Colonial-style homes, reflecting the area’s development throughout the years. “Mostly, there are a lot of single-family homes. There are apartments at the university, but we don’t have a lot of high-rise condos or anything like that,” says Realtor Justin Reesy, Team Owner with Keller Williams 1st Choice, who has over 17 years of experience in the area. “There are lots of historic properties, many that have been remodeled several times through their lifespans.” Sidewalks thread the community together, shaded by tall leafy trees that fill with Eastern tent caterpillars in the spring. Homes in need of more extensive renovations typically price between $130,000 and $250,000, while move-in ready options range from $350,000 to $650,000.

Live music and trendy eateries in South Central Kentucky
Reesy says that downtown is full of popular local restaurants. “The cuisine and the nightlife in this part of town range from little honky-tonk bars to these quiet, classy speakeasy-type joints,” he says. “It gets pretty busy on weekends, but you’ll be able to find something no matter what kind of mood you’re in.” These include Gerard’s 1907 Tavern, which offers sandwiches and pub fare, and Donna’s, an intimate dive with billiard tables and regular live music. Other popular restaurants include AzziPizza and Novo Dolce, a gastro pub. The Kroger of Riverside Center is the closest supermarket, although small bodegas and convenience stores can be found throughout the neighborhood. Residents will need to venture beyond the community to pick up household necessities at Walmart.
