A blend of suburb and countryside in the home of the Corvette
East Bowling Green is not exactly what one might expect when imagining the home of the Corvette. Just down the highway from the National Corvette Museum, this area is less an urban manufacturing center and more an expansive mix of suburban communities and rolling pastoral hills. “The big draw is that it’s a little more country out there, but it still has access to the main interstate and to the highway corridors leading into Bowling Green,” says Lloyd Ferguson, Real Estate Broker and Auctioneer with Vette City Real Estate and Auction Company, a lifelong resident with nearly 50 years of experience in area real estate. “Drakes Creek runs right through it, and there’s more land out here than in the city. But it’s still right by a growing city, so it’s a great place to experience that from.”
Modern suburban communities and large mansions with acreage
Prospective owners will find larger and newer homes on this side of the highway. “There hasn’t been a lot of development on the city side of the interstate just due to a lack of space, but out here, there are some good builders who have put up some nice, Modern homes,” Ferguson says. “The area has been slowly developing into subdivisions, but there are places with some substantial acreage available.” Single-story brick cottages, ranch-style homes and Cape Cods in recently developed communities near the interstate can start at around $200,000 and rise to $590,000 depending on the number of bedrooms, the build year and the lot size. Further east, large Modern Traditional mansions on 1- to 2-acre lots are priced anywhere from $930,000 to over $1 million.
Drakes Creek Middle and Greenwood High are well-rated schools
Students in this sprawling neighborhood are zoned to attend Cumberland Trace Elementary School, which receives an A-minus from Niche. Drakes Creek Middle was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2023. Greenwood High was rated the No. 1 High School in the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative region by the Kentucky Board of Education. Both schools also earn A-minus grades.
Commutes to Bowling Green and Nashville, TN
Cemetery Road effectively bisects the community and serves as the central connector west to Bowling Green proper. This thoroughfare also merges with Interstate 65 at the northwestern corner of the neighborhood, providing access south to Tennessee. “We’re just about 60 miles north of Nashville, and we’ve had a lot of people move here who make that commute,” Ferguson says.
Drakes Creek is a destination for boating and fishing
Drakes Creek, a tributary of the nearby Barren River, meanders its way through the East Bowling Green countryside, allowing local anglers to fish for bass, bluegill and muskie – one of the largest freshwater game fish in the country. The creek is also popular for canoeing, kayaking and floating. “There’s plenty of what you might call lake-style recreation around East Bowling Green,” Ferguson says. “We’ve also got Barren River Lake nearby, so if residents like being on the water, they’re in the right spot.”
Shopping centers on Route 231 and restaurants at Greenwood Mall
The closest supermarkets to East Bowling Green are located along U.S. Route 231 in the shopping centers surrounding Greenwood Mall. Kroger, Meijer and Gordon Food Service Store are all available, as is the local Walmart Supercenter for daily household necessities. The Route 231 corridor is also home to various restaurants, including regional chains like Smokey Bones, a BBQ grill and smokehouse, and locally owned institutions like Pub by Novo.
