Convenience meets quiet neighborhood streets in Eastland Park
With major avenues cutting through the neighborhood, Eastland Park makes it easy to get to Bowling Green attractions without dealing with the noise of downtown. “I think people like the convenience and having some of the older houses with a little bit more character to them,” says Sawyer Williams, a Realtor at Keller Williams First Choice with seven years of industry experience. “It’s a good historic area with good walkability, schools and commercial areas.” Homes from the early to mid-20th century sit blocks away from popular dining destinations and expansive parks. To the south, the homes get newer and commercial activity continues along Scottsville Road. In addition to local attractions, necessities like grocery stores, schools and a hospital are nearby, offering convenience from all corners of the neighborhood.
A wide range of housing styles await buyers
Housing styles vary depending on the section of the neighborhood. In the northeast, Magnolia and Nutwood Street have Craftsman homes and bungalows from the 1930s to the ‘50s. Most of these are close together on tight lots but have spacious front and backyards. The southern part of the community is largely made up of cottages and ranch-style homes from the 1950s to ‘80s. These lots are often bigger than in other areas, and the houses sit on wide, quiet streets. Buyers might pay a little more in Eastland Park than in different parts of Bowling Green. “It’s in the mid to higher price range. It’s a pretty competitive area where a lot of people want to be, so it’s on the higher side,” Williams says. Homes under 2,000 square feet can cost between $110,000 and $300,000. Larger houses range from $240,000 to $500,000.
Shopping and dining scenes are close by
Several popular restaurants are located in and around Eastland Park. Locals can start the day with a blueberry doughnut and coffee from Great American Donut Shop on the U.S. 31W Bypass. Just up the street, Novo Dolce is a trendy restaurant recommended by Williams, serving an upscale take on classic pub food. Montana Grille is a steakhouse with a mountain lodge theme on Scottsville Road. Grocery stores such as Meijer and Kroger are south of the neighborhood. Chain stores like Best Buy, Lowe’s, Kohl’s and Target are also nearby. Greenwood Mall is about a mile south of the community and has a mix of department stores and smaller shops.
Outdoor activities abound at Bowling Green parks
Covington Woods Park offers a wide range of activities, including basketball and tennis courts, a playground and picnic shelters. It’s also home to Paul Walker Golf Course, a public nine-hole course that hosts an annual tournament each June. Kereiakes Park is east of the neighborhood and has lots more room for sports, including basketball, tennis and baseball facilities. This park is also popular for its walking trail and disc golf course. Residents can purchase a community garden plot here and grow produce.
Students prepare for careers at Bowling Green High School
T.C. Cherry Elementary School gets a B-minus from Niche, while Bowling Green Junior High School earns an A-minus. Bowling Green High School receives an A and serves about 1,300 students. The state-of-the-art building opened in 2023 and is conveniently located on Rockingham Avenue. Bowling Green High offers several specialized programs, including career and technical education courses in business, child development, computer science and medical arts. Students in the medical program can become certified nursing assistants, dental assistants or EMTs. The school is also known for its award-winning bands and choir.
Highways and bus routes offer ways to get around Eastland Park
Scottsville Road is a north-south thoroughfare in the community, leading to downtown Bowling Green, about 2 miles away. The U.S. 31W Bypass is also nearby and connects to other highways like Fairview Avenue and U.S. Route 68. GoBG Transit operates multiple neighborhood bus routes connecting riders to downtown and other parts of the city. TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital is in the community on Ashley Circle.
