South Florida’s quieter bayside enclave
Residents of Boynton Beach’s bayside area can spend their time fishing, chartering a boat, exploring Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park and taking in the views of the Intracoastal Waterway. “Obviously we’ve got a great beach, and even though it’s in a city, I’m able to have a garden, and there’s lots of greenery to be had nearby,” says Peter Nede, Boynton Bay resident of 25 years and owner of Rainforest Candles. What started as a hobby during the COVID-19 quarantine period quickly became a passion and storefront. A part of every sale is donated to restore and maintain El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. “We’re trying to avoid the growth hubbub that Delray, Boca and some other places have been experiencing. There’s just lots of nice people here, and the location is great—you can get to Fort Lauderdale in 30 minutes and the hospital in 20.”

Shore access options and Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park
Boynton Bay is home to Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park, an eight-acre waterfront complex offering a boat ramp and docks. Kids enjoy the park’s playground, families head to the picnic area on sunny days, and anglers enjoy the fishing pier in the early morning. For Atlantic fishing opportunities and a quieter beach day, folks traverse the Intracoastal Waterway over East Ocean Avenue to reach Ocean Inlet Park. They’re also a short drive from the busier beachfronts in Lake Worth and Delray Beach.

Visiting Boynton’s bayside shops and restaurants
While folks head to nearby Lake Worth for a true boardwalk experience, many local and family-owned businesses inhabit the Boynton Beach waterfront. Locals can stop into Florida Native Bait & Tackle for fresh baits before hitting the Boynton Beach City Ramp for a day on the water. Other businesses like Rainforest Candles set up shops at farmers markets and sell locally. “I get orders from all over the country online, but many of my customers are local—they call me the candle man!” Nede says.
For a bite to eat, Boynton Bay residents could head to nearby options like Amar Bakery & Market or Alfa Pizzeria, or head further inland to chain fare and local favorites surrounding the expansive Boynton Beach Mall. “The best Mexican in town is Casa Linda on Congress Avenue. It’s delicious and authentic,” Nede says. “And there’s a great little old-fashioned tavern with pine paneling walls called Tropical Inn that serves mostly locals and veterans. For groceries, I usually go to the Publix off 95 or the one on Woolbright Road.” Other nearby retailers include family-owned Mr. A’s Grocery and Caribbean Meat Market & Grocery.
