Tara’s two golf clubs in West Central Florida

Tara is home to not one, but two golf courses in Bradenton, Florida. Established in 1989, Tara Golf & Country Club is a luxurious member-owned community with a 120-acre championship golf course. Over a decade later, more tee times became available when the Preserve Golf Club at Tara opened about a mile away. While there are many recreational and retail options nearby, most residents enjoy the peace, quiet and laid-back atmosphere that Tara is known for. “It’s a really great, friendly neighborhood,” says Jesse Rutherford, a real estate agent with White Sands Realty Group who has lived in the area for around 14 years. “I can’t walk the dog around the block without talking to 12 different people.”

Golfing, boating and fishing by Braden River

Both 18-hole golf courses host tournaments throughout the year and have on-site lessons led by seasoned PGA professionals. Country club members also have their own pool with a water volleyball net, and tennis and pickleball players compete on one of the nearby courts. Jiggs Landing is a pet-friendly nature outpost east of Ward Lake that has cabins and kayaks available to rent. “They have live music there all the time on the weekends,” Rutherford says. “They do boat tours up the Braden River, and there’s a lot of fishing in that lake.” Sky Zone is a trampoline park north of the highway that has a foam pit, dodgeball arena and an obstacle course.

Stucco homes, condominiums and custom builds

The area is mainly characterized by older condominiums and contemporary homes with tiled roofs and open floor plans. Winding roads lead to many cul-de-sacs and residential subdivisions, and streets are lined with sidewalks, small ponds and palm trees. “It’s very beautiful,” Rutherford says. “Most people find it, and they never leave. They move from the condos to the homes, or from the homes back into the condos.” Two-to-three-bedroom condo units are between $165,000 and $375,000 and cost $360 to $1,000 in HOA fees every month. Stucco houses with landscaped lawns and short driveways range from $380,000 to $735,000. A few large custom-built homes with luxurious amenities cost $950,000 to $1.15 million.

Sunday brunch, Thai fusion and nearby shopping centers

Napar Restaurant is an Asian-fusion restaurant at the Preserve clubhouse that offers a variety of seafood entrees, sushi and stir-fried noodles. The country club also has its own dining room with lunch, dinner and bar service, plus its Sunday brunches are open to the public. There are more shopping and dining options farther north at Creekwood Crossing, which is anchored by department stores such as Lowe’s, Bealls and Big Lots. The closest grocery stores are Publix in Twelve Oaks Plaza and Walmart in Ranch Lake Plaza.

An agricultural education in Manatee County schools

Students who live in Tara are zoned for the School District of Manatee County, which manages over 65 campuses and earns a B on Niche. Tara Elementary is located between both golf courses and earns an A-minus on Niche. B-rated Braden River Middle has a 4H and an FFA program, while Braden River High earns a B-plus and offers advanced studies for science, health, engineering and business.

MCAT buses and a major highway intersection

The intersection of Interstate 75 and Florida State Road 70 is directly northeast of both communities and provides straightforward commutes to Tampa and Fort Myers. Manatee County Area Transit buses stop along 53rd Avenue and provide rides to the nearby Walmart and the Desoto Station over 7 miles northwest. HCA Florida Braden River Emergency is less than 3 miles east and is open for 24 hours, while the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is around 10 miles southwest. The CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Gator tours and clubhouse events

The clubhouses in both communities are often used for special events such as weddings, banquets, fundraisers, birthday parties and baby showers. Jiggs Landing also hosts alligator tours along the river at night May through September.
