Braselton blends Southern charm, entertainment and luxury

Braselton is home to a large resort and winery, premier racetrack and historic downtown. It also touches four different counties, adding to its eclecticness: Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall and Jackson. "We're serviced by four amazing county school systems. We do have a lot of retired folks coming into the area; they like that they've got a lot of different housing options," says Amy Pinnell, the town's community director. "We also don't have property tax, so that's a bonus. And I think just the small town, low crime and great leadership [are a draw]. We work hard to offer attractions and things to do." Braselton began with a mercantile store established over 100 years ago by the Braselton brothers. Today, prominent businesses are Chateau Elan Winery and Resort and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Chateau Elan is a stunning 3,000-acre estate that blends the art of winemaking with the charm of a master-planned community nestled in the picturesque town of Braselton.

By the golf course at Château Élan Estates

Home to over 15,000 people, Braselton's population grew by 12% from 2022 to 2023. The city offers typical suburban neighborhoods, master-planned communities and traditional villages. Château Élan Estates has gated neighborhoods surrounding Chateau Elan Winery and Resort, which has its own golf course and ice-skating rink. Braselton Village is a new neighborhood steps from shopping in Chateau Elan. While the city is adding new homes all over, especially east and west, it's not focused on development. "We don't really go out and recruit like some communities might," Pinnell says. "We're fortunate that things are coming to us, but it's very important that our zoning and ordinances are in place so we can get the type of development that works best for our community." The city's median home price is around $455,000, roughly 30% more than the state median.

Four school districts, rated A to B-plus on Niche

Braselton is served by four school districts: A-minus-rated Jackson County School System, A-rated Gwinnett County Public Schools, B-plus-rated Barrow County School System and B-plus-rated Hall County Schools. The city is in the process of opening a charter school downtown called Four Points Preparatory Academy. "The Braselton brothers started a high school in the 1920s, and that school got absorbed into county education. We're excited to come back into having our own school for the city," Pinnell says.

Gwinnett County Public Schools is one of the largest and most dynamic school districts in the entire state of Georgia, serving a diverse community of students and families with a wide range of educational programs and opportunities.

Fourth of July at Braselton Town Green

There's a park downtown with a pavilion that's close to the city's library. Braselton Town Green is also in the heart of the community, next to the historic Braselton Brothers store, called The 1904. The green space is used for free movie nights and pop-up festivals. It's also the site of the local Fourth of July celebrations, Pinnell says. The Braselton Mulberry RiverWalk offers an over 4-mile multiuse trail winding around a waterway that connects to commercial and residential areas.

The Braselton Town Green serves as a vibrant hub of community activity, hosting an exciting array of events throughout the year, from lively festivals and outdoor concerts to art shows and seasonal celebrations, making it a cherished gathering place for residents and visitors alike.

Braselton loves its antiques

Downtown Braselton is known for its antique stores and celebrates them with winter and summer markets. The city also hosts its Antique & Artisan Festival in the fall. The summertime farmers market, exclusively for local vendors, happens on Fridays in the downtown green. Braselton’s "211 corridor,” as locals call it, offers commercial areas accessible from the Braselton Mulberry RiverWalk and within Chateau Elan.

At the Braselton Farmers Market, you'll discover a delightful array of offerings, from succulent wild shrimp to lush, thriving houseplants.

The Braselton Trolley offers a unique way to get around

Braselton stretches along Interstate 85, and five state routes pass through the area. "We have a trolley that runs a regular route around town on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.," Pinnell says. She adds that locals can drive their golf carts on city sidewalks and paths. Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton provides emergency, primary and specialized care in the same complex. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is within about 60 miles. Downtown Atlanta is roughly 50 miles away.

Four seasons and mild winters in Braselton

Braselton has four seasons. It’s hot and humid for less than four months of the year, and winters are mild. Homes surrounding the Northeast Georgia Medical Center have experienced minor flood-related issues linked to the complex's retention pond. Hurricane Helene caused power outages from downed trees in 2024.
