Suburban Neighborhood in Brickerville, Pennsylvania
Lancaster County 17543, 17578
Named after the historic Battle of Lexington that took place on its grounds, Lexington is a small community tucked into Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This area offers residents a blend of rural charm, Amish culture and scenic countryside with proximity to city amenities.
“Brickerville is a beautiful mountainous area in the northern part of the county,” says Darrell Coyle, Realtor with Charles & Associates Realty. “It’s very close to a little town called Lititz, which was voted “The Coolest Small Town in America” a few years back. This part of Lancaster County is more populated than the south and has a bit more going on.”
Lexington is known for its bountiful farming and agriculture. As you drive through the area, you’ll see historic farmhouses and rustic barns surrounded by lush farmland. There are also plenty of residential neighborhoods, where you’ll find many homes built in the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch and Colonial styles. Colonial Revivals, bungalows, ranch homes and converted barns can all be spotted in Lexington. These houses are often perched on lots ranging from a half-acre to an acre with tidy, mature landscaping. In Lexington, you can get a two-bedroom brick ranch home for around $250,000 or a four-bedroom colonial for around $425,000. According to Coyle, inventory is low, and demand is high.
Kids in Lexington attend John Beck Elementary School, Warwick Middle School and Warwick Senior High School, which all belong to Lancaster County’s Warwick School District. This school district receives an overall grade of B+ from Niche, with particularly high ratings in the categories of academics, teachers and college prep. Warwick Senior High has a Career and Technology Center (CTC) program that offers students the opportunity to take courses focused on technical fields such as healthcare and information technology. The school also offers its Open Campus program to seniors, which allows them free time during the day to pursue career-related goals or additional studies.
Enjoy the outdoors at Elizabeth Township Community Park, located at the intersection of Route 322 East and Elizabeth Park. This well-maintained park has a large, colorful playground for kids, several athletic fields and a paved trail for walking and biking that encircles the entire park. For more nature, head to Speedwell Forge County Park. This 415-acre undeveloped park has a hiking trail that winds through the woods, past a cow pasture and alongside several cornfields.
Fill the fridge with fresh groceries from Weiser’s Market on Furnace Hill Road, or swing by Green Hills Farm Discount Grocer on Newport Road. Bricker Village, situated on Route 322, is a popular spot for Lexington residents to shop. This open-air plaza contains all locally owned and operated shops on a property with covered courtyard walkways and a restored 1857 barn. Browse everything from antiques to handmade chocolates to art glass in this unique collection of shops.
When hungry, head to Brickerville House Restaurant, which is also located in Bricker Village. This cozy eatery is situated in a 1750s building and serves comforting American dishes all day long. Coffee lovers don’t want to miss Copper Cup, situated right across the street. This local Lancaster coffee company serves all your favorites, from drip coffee to specialty espresso drinks, along with a menu of baked goods and sandwiches.
Lexington is situated just north of Lancaster and can be accessed quickly by the town’s public bus system or by jumping in the car and heading 12 miles south on Route 501. Lexington’s proximity to Interstate 76 provides another easy way to get around town and beyond.
