Bridge City is a hub stationed along the Mississippi
It's no secret how Bridge City got its name. Established during the construction of the Huey P. Long Bridge in the 1930s, Bridge City has developed into a hub along the Mississippi River that connects locals to New Orleans' Elmwood community. Named "The Gumbo Capital of the World" in 1973 by former Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Edwards, Bridge City is known for good eats while serving as an active residential community in Jefferson Parish. Bridge City also serves as a popular landing spot for those working at Entergy’s Ninemile Point power station, which sits along the river at the community's north side. "Bridge City is located on the Westbank, and there are parts of it that are actually kind of an older community," says local Realtor Sissy Blewster of Reve Realtors, who has over a decade of experience in the real estate industry. "There's a lot of industrial stuff in Bridge City along the banks of the Mississippi, so it's a very good working-class community."

Bridge City primarily contains smaller ranch-style homes with brick facades and hipped roofs, though smaller cottages and shotgun-style dwellings are also peppered throughout the community. Students in Bridge City are served by the Jefferson Parish School District. Children from prekindergarten through Grade 8 may attend Emmett Gilbert School of Excellence, which earns an overall grade of C-minus from Niche, while teens can attend L.W. Higgins High School on Lapalco Boulevard. Earning a C grade from Niche, the high school offers a host of extracurricular clubs and organizations from National Honor Society to AFJROTC along with a competitive athletics program.

Bridge City Playground is a recreational hot spot
After school, parents flock to Bridge City Tot Lot to meet for friendly playdates while cyclists and joggers frequent the 60-mile Mississippi River Trail for picturesque views of the water. Bridge City Playground serves as a top spot for weekend recreation. Athletes gather at the baseball fields for batting practice while youngsters get the wiggles out at the park's jungle gym. Just across the street, residents congregate for the Bridge City Gumbo Festival — an annual celebration featuring carnival rides, live entertainment and, of course, a constant flow of gumbo.
