A life of luxury
Home prices in Bristol Highlands typically start around $600,000 and continue into the multi-millions. Homes are in a variety of styles, with classic New England architectural features giving the neighborhood character. Property and lot sizes depend on the street that residents live on or proximity to the water. Towards the center of the neighborhood, bungalows, Craftsman-style properties and colonial-revival homes sit on well-maintained lawns. Closer to the coast or Colt State Park, home prices shoot up, with luxury estates running into the millions. “This is a desirable area,” says Realtor Mary Jo Tavares with Century 21 Topsail Realty, who lives in Bristol. “Properties, if priced right, will stay on the market for 10 days at most.”Where stone walls meet shoreline
Colt State Park spans 464 acres and includes 4 miles of paved trail past historic stone walls and the Narragansett Bay shoreline. Open year-round, the entire western border of the park opens to the bay, making it a popular destination for photographers and artists. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers frequent the park, as it offers a rare opportunity for winter snows by the water. The Colt State Trail and bike paths connect to Bristol Town Beach, a pocket of sandy beach amid a rocky coastline. Here, there’s a playground for kids and multiple sports courts.Shaping future generations
Students are zoned for the Bristol Warren Regional School District and can attend Rockwell Elementary School, which Niche gives a B-plus, before moving to Kickermuit Middle School, a B-rated school from Niche. Then, they can attend Mt. Hope High School, which Niche gives a B-minus. The high school offers Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming in Business and Finance, Pre-Engineering, Architecture and Construction, Bioscience and Information Technology, which prepare students for careers outside of the classroom.March to the beat of history
“There’s an Improvement Association that hosts all kinds of events, like a book club and an annual pig roast,” says Tavares. “It’s a great way for newcomers to meet their neighbors.” If residents opt to join the Bristol Highlands Improvement Association, they’ll have access to the neighborhood’s clubhouse, which includes tennis courts and a private beach, as well as various community events throughout the year. Bristol is also home to the nation's oldest Independence Day celebration, the Bristol Fourth of July Parade, dating back to 1785. Drawing thousands of spectators each year, it features floats and marching bands.Off the beaten path

Hope Street, which runs parallel to the shoreline, is a great place to spend a weekend afternoon. Inside Colonial-style buildings are local shops, eateries and cafes for residents to peruse. There are homes and apartments in this area as well and, only a couple of blocks from the water, residents and visitors alike have access to bayside restaurants and marinas dotted up and down.At the top of the neighborhood, there’s a commercial area that ensures locals have access to everything they need. Grab groceries from Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue or pick up a prescription from the neighboring Walgreens. Vigilant Brewing, a popular spot for drinks, is also up here, as well as Riccotti’s Sandwich Shop, where locals can walk up to the counter and order their sandwich.
