Located on the neighborhood's west side, houses are mostly Victorians, with a few Italianate-style buildings mixed in. Detached homes list for about $800,000 to $1.2 million. Across the Major Deegan Expressway, the east side is predominantly occupied by the Marble Hill Houses, a complex of 11 low-income rental buildings. Marble Hill Playground is home to climbing structures and a splash pad, as well as an athletic field and basketball and handball courts. Just two miles north, the third-largest park in the city, Van Cortlandt Park is rich in facilities including a swimming pool, skate park, horse stables, courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball and a nature center. The park contains the first public golf course in the nation, the oldest house in the Bronx and the borough’s biggest freshwater lake. Marble Hill High School for International Studies’ diverse student body represents more than 45 countries across the world and is rated A-minus. The local 1 train can be caught at Marble Hill’s southern border, with travel to Midtown Manhattan taking about 45 minutes. The Hudson Line of the Metro-North Train also serves Marble Hill; it delivers passengers to Grand Central in a quick 25 minutes.
