The relaxing way of life and beautiful natural surroundings of Brownsboro Village may feel like magic, even without street names like Sprite Road, Oread Road (a mountain nymph) and Druid Hills Road (a Celtic spiritual leader). Just minutes from the Ohio River and surrounded by lush canopies of mature pin oaks and silver maples, Brownsboro Village is an independent city of just a few narrow streets that offers its residents convenient proximity to Louisville, Kentucky, balanced by spacious and green living areas as well as an active community that facilitates a myriad of programs for its residents. In the last few years, the neighborhood's board of commissioners organized a garden club, book club and a tree program where "The village will purchase a tree and have it planted for residents. It's great to see a neighborhood that really encourages a healthy and active lifestyle," says Caroline Westfall, the village arborist. Regular programs such as these help promote the "Know your neighbor feel" that Brownsboro Village is known for, while also caring for both residents and the local environment. With quaint cottage homes, a welcoming, respectful community and an abundance of peace and quiet, Brownsboro Village stands out among Louisville neighborhoods as a place that's just as charming as it is convenient.

Brownsboro homes with vintage charm
High up in the wooded hills above the Ohio River, Brownsboro Village is composed of several lightly trafficked, short streets that are "Safe enough for kids to play outside and for residents to enjoy leisurely walks, bike rides and exercise," says Mark Condon, a local resident who's lived in the neighborhood for 35 years. Streets come together at lamp posts that cast the street names in gold, while ornamental trees, plants and shrubs adorn "Generous, well taken care of lawns," says Condon. Predominantly made with white or red brick, several historic homes built near the start of the twentieth century and vintage midcentury home styles throughout the neighborhood add to Brownsboro Village's "Historic charm," says Condon. Newly repainted cottages built before 1950 and featuring up to 2,000 square feet of space go for about $410,000, while smaller ranch-style homes with two bedrooms and one bath sell for around $295,000 dollars. On the more affordable end, a condo with two bedrooms and one bath goes for about $170,000. The average sales price for homes in Brownsboro Village is about $400,000, which is significantly higher than the average for the surrounding area of Jefferson County.

Surrounded by Kentucky's bountiful suburban woods and numerous parks, residents of Brownsboro Village don't need to go far from home to enjoy time outside.
