A gated community along the Turtle River
Oak Grove Island Plantation is a gated, amenities-rich Brunswick community tucked into a bend of the Turtle River. "It's the only community that we have in Brunswick that offers luxury amenities with a guard at the front gate every night at 6 p.m.," says local associate broker Stephanie Webb with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Hodnett Cooper. She's sold homes across the region for nearly 25 years and lives on St. Simons Island. "Plus, the neighborhood is fun. It offers so many different things for its residents, from game nights to couples golf." The community's riverfront location and many amenities encourage an active, outdoorsy lifestyle.

Custom homes along the golf course, marshes and river
Oak Grove Island has hundreds of early 21st-century homes on quarter- to half-acre lots, surrounded by marshes and saltwater tributaries. Some homes overlook the river, some the marshes and others the golf course – each property accented with mature trees and bright green lawns. Every house in the community is custom to the original owner. "One of the best things about Oak Grove Island is that all of the houses are individually designed and built," Webb says. "There are very strict architectural guidelines, so it's done very nicely." The community is not fully built out, but lots are rarely available. "The price range is anywhere from $500,000 up to $1 million," Webb says. Homes on the water with private docks tend to value closer to $1 million.

Oak Grove Island is home to the Heritage Oaks Golf Club, which operates the 18-hole golf course that sprawls across the neighborhood. Membership is required to play golf, and rates are discounted for community residents. The golf club also hosts events and tournaments. The community has multiple additional amenities. "Your homeowner's dues will cover access to the community clubhouse, swimming pool and tennis courts," Webb says. "There are additional fees for the yacht club, marina and dock, but they're all very reasonable." The marina and dock offer access to the Turtle River, where local boaters enjoy fishing, swimming and water sports. The community also features a playground for the kids.

Golden Isles Parkway offers the nearest dining options
Oak Grove Island offers minimal dining options. "You do have a little restaurant in the clubhouse, but you're pretty much going to want to drive to Brunswick, St. Simons or Jekyll Island for restaurants," Webb says. A few restaurants are available on Golden Isles Parkway, including Mack's Bar-Be-Que, where pork sandwiches are popular. Additional restaurants and fast-food spots are available where Golden Isles Parkway meets Interstate 95, about 5 miles from Oak Grove Island. There, locals enjoy restaurants like 1800 Mexican Restaurant and Larry's Giant Subs. Winn Dixie is around 5 miles away.
