A historic neighborhood with a redeveloped historic downtown
Brunswick’s Old Town neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 for its iconic Victorians and original 18th-century town layout. When Brunswick was initially laid out in 1771, it comprised a couple hundred acres; the city has since expanded, but its original borders form modern-day Old Town. The neighborhood retains a historic feel even as it changes. “Old Town is quaint, historic and going through a lot of renovations,” says local Realtor Deanne Cohrs of Keller Williams Golden Isles. She’s sold homes across the region for nearly a decade. “The whole area is bouncing back. Over the past 10 years, they’ve put in a lot of new businesses and restaurants, and there’s been a major sense of community since they started bouncing back.”
Old Town is only minutes away from the Jekyll Island beaches.
Old Town is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the country and does well to preserve it.

Historic Victorians line Old Town's tree-tunneled streets
Mature palms and aged oaks cover Old Town, lining sidewalks and shading quarter-acre yards. The neighborhood’s characteristic Victorians date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often with classic bay windows and wide front porches decorated with hanging plants. Early 20th-century craftsman bungalows and 21st-century cottages pepper the neighborhood. Some of the community’s homes need a few repairs. “While a lot of homes are ready to go, there are still plenty that can be picked up, loved on and restored,” Cohrs says. Homes here list between $225,000 and $600,000.
Old Town homes vary in size and design but hold the same charm.
Old Town residents enjoy the springtime when the town blooms with flowers.

Brunswick's historic downtown offers many restaurants and shops
Old Town is home to Brunswick’s historic downtown, where strung-up outdoor lights and tall palms accent brick-clad shops, restaurants and service businesses. “It’s an old historic strip that’s not overly busy,” Cohrs says. “There’s a bunch of shops you can bounce in and out of.” At 1509 Brunswick, residents enjoy the house-cut steak of the week, red wine and views of downtown Brunswick. Silver Bluff Brewing Company features a taproom and beer garden, and Beaus and Babes Boutique is a popular spot to shop. Downtown is also home to the Ritz Theater, which has staged live performances and movies since its opening in 1899. Locals enjoy downtown events, including First Fridays and the Blessing of the Fleet Festival, an annual celebration of local anglers and shrimpers. Big-box grocery stores, like Walmart Neighborhood Market, are about 3 miles north.
The Ritz Theater is a historical staple in Old Town and is still in operation today.
Old Town is very walkable and safe to explore at any time of the day.

Popping in the East River or day trips to Mary Ross Waterfront Park
The East River borders Old Town to the west, and Mary Ross Waterfront Park is a popular spot for river access and sunset views. It has a commercial dock where shrimp and charter boats pop in and out, as well as a scale model of the Liberty Ships built in Brunswick and used to ferry critical supplies across the Atlantic during the Second World War. The park also features an amphitheater and hosts some of Brunswick’s most popular events, like the farmers market and the annual Brunswick Rockin’ Stewbilee. The Stewbilee includes a car show, live music and a Brunswick stew tasting and contest. Old Town is also home to several of Brunswick’s signature squares, including Hanover Square and Wright Square. These are public green spaces laid out in the city’s original plan, covered with moss-draped oaks and paved walking paths.
Old Town boaters can easily go out for a fishing trip with the marina so close to town.
Old Town is only minutes from places like Driftwood beach, a tree graveyard.

A few miles from St. Simons Island and I-95
While Old Town is a walkable community, the city of Brunswick is largely car-dependent. The neighborhood is near U.S. Route 17, also known as Ocean Highway, and U.S. Route 25, which meets Interstate 95 about 5 miles north. The F.J. Torras Causeway heads over the salt marshes and into St. Simons Island about 6 miles east. Brunswick Golden Isles Airport offers Delta flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Travelers can hop on I-95 to reach Jacksonville, about 70 miles south, or Savannah, a 74-mile trip north.
