Burlington Town Center
Suburban streets and homes developed from the midcentury through the 2020s
The tree-canopied hills that roll through Burlington Town Center are filled with quiet suburban streets. Dead-end roads and grassy blocks were popular development trends from the 1950s through the 1970s, lined by a blend of ranch-style homes, Cape Cods, split-levels and colonials. Prices for these older homes typically range from around $650,000 to $1 million, though large and updated homes can go for more. More expansive new traditional homes built in cul-de-sac subdivisions from the 1990s through 2010s sell for around $1.1 million to $1.6 million. Sprawling new construction from the 2020s can go from around $1.4 million to $2.3 million. Buyers can also find townhouses in a handful of communities for around $830,000 to $900,000. Several large apartment complexes give the neighborhood a fairly even split between renters and homeowners.Attending Burlington Public Schools
A handful of elementary schools serve Burlington Town Center. Most kids will attend Memorial Elementary School, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Marshall Simmonds Middle School earns an A-minus, as does Burlington High School. Burlington High allows students to receive credit from Middlesex Community College, UMass Boston and Lasell University through dual enrollment courses.Commuting around Burlington and toward Boston
The town’s corporate offices and Lahey Hospital & Medical Center are within a few miles of Burlington Town Center, near Burlington Mall. Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 3 intersect in Burlington Town Center. Taking Interstate 95 to Interstate 93, commuters have a roughly 16-mile drive to downtown Boston. Route 3 offers a roughly 12-mile drive to Harvard Square in Cambridge. While Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority buses 350 and 354 run between hubs in neighboring suburbs, most residents rely on cars to get around. The Anderson/Woburn commuter rail station is about 6 miles away, offering access to the Lowell Line and a roughly 25-minute train ride to North Station. Boston Logan International Airport is around 18 miles from home.Recreation from Simonds Park to the Mill Pond Conservation Area
Simonds Park is a major hub for Burlington Town Center, home to classic baseball diamonds and tennis courts, as well as a skate park and seasonal wading pool. Across Cambridge Street, the Town Common is a well-manicured lawn with shady trees and park benches. Nearby, residents might check out some books at the Burlington Public Library or attend an athletic league practice or craft class at the town’s recreation center. On the east side of Burlington Town Center, Mill Pond Conservation Area is wilder than the rest of the neighborhood’s green spaces. Across 140 acres, hikers can travel on trails through forests, wetlands and around the area’s namesake reservoir.Shopping and dining on Cambridge Street and at the Burlington Mall
Concentrated near its intersection with Winn Street, Cambridge Street is lined with a strip mall commercial district. Shoppers stop into Shaw’s and the Used Book Superstore, the largest used bookstore in New England. Along the same road, diners hit the vegetarian buffet at Mehfil Indian Cuisine or sit down at the upscale steakhouse chain, Mooo.... Many other commercial centers are a mile or two outside the neighborhood, most notably the Burlington Mall. Since early development projects like the second-floor expansion of the 1980s, Burlington Mall has continued supporting classic tenants like Nordstrom and Macy’s while also adapting to modern retail trends. Some of the newest projects include a satellite wellness plaza and The Park at Burlington Mall, a collection of sitting areas and greens that host exercise classes and social events. Shopping centers line roads around the mall, anchored by chains like Target and Trader Joe's.Events at the Town Common
Burlington community events take place on the Town Common’s lawn and in its central gazebo. “Every year we have Truck Day. Firefighters, police officers, other businesspeople, they come from all over. The Town Common is packed. They let all the kids get in the cabs and blow the horns all day long. It could give Aspirin a headache. The kids have a blast. My office is near the Common; I work somewhere else on Truck Day,” Austin says. Other sounds define other celebrations at the Town Common, from the booming fireworks that end each Burlington Day festival to the strains of live musicians and other entertainers that return each week for the Burlington Summer Shows. Several houses of worship hold religious services and events throughout Burlington Town Center, including Temple Shalom Emeth and Mount Hope Christian Center.Traffic on major roads in Burlington Town Center
Thanks to Burlington’s significant commercial, corporate and healthcare centers, more people come into town throughout the day than sleep there overnight. Within Burlington Town Center, main thoroughfares like Cambridge Street can become clogged.
