Residential neighborhood south of Uptown amenities
Central Butte is a residential area with historic homes near transportation and retail. “It’s one of the areas with our most affordable housing,” says Denise Kelly, broker/owner at RE/MAX Premier. “It has several parks. It’s walkable to schools and Uptown Butte.” During Butte’s copper boom days, this neighborhood housed many miners. By the turn of the 20th century, blacksmiths and lawyers had moved in, and the neighborhood became a cultural hub for churches that served as community spaces. Today, Central Butte has century-old homes close to several major highways, including Interstate 15 and Interstate 90.
Historic bungalows and fourplexes
Central Butte includes many properties that predate 1900. These 19th-century homes are generally shotgun-style or cottages and tend to be clustered toward Main Street. After the turn of the century, home construction shifted to bungalows, fourplexes and smaller ranches. “There are old houses built in the early 1900s,” Kelly says. “All houses are the old mining houses, and they can get on the National Historic Register.” Street parking is still common, but some homes have private garages or a driveway. Prices range from $95,000 for fixer-uppers towards Front Street to $600,000 for a fourplex near Uptown. This neighborhood has a 6 out of 10 CAP Index crime score, two points higher than the national figure.
Plenty of bungalows can be found while walking the residential streets of Central Butte.

Emma Park is centrally located in the neighborhood with a gazebo. “Emma Park does lunch in the park on Wednesdays during warmer months,” Kelly says. Koprivica Park has a playground with swings and green space. Butte gets cold in the wintertime; the average daily temperature in the area below 38 degrees between mid-November and March. “You can’t live here without embracing winter,” Kelly says. “We hike a lot, go snowshoeing and cross skiing, and then you have the mountain trails.”
