Historic bungalows and fourplexes
Central Butte includes many properties that predate 1900. These 19th-century homes are generally shotgun-style or cottages and tend to be clustered toward Main Street. After the turn of the century, home construction shifted to bungalows, fourplexes and smaller ranches. “There are old houses built in the early 1900s,” Kelly says. “All houses are the old mining houses, and they can get on the National Historic Register.” Street parking is still common, but some homes have private garages or a driveway. Prices range from $95,000 for fixer-uppers towards Front Street to $600,000 for a fourplex near Uptown. This neighborhood has a 6 out of 10 CAP Index crime score, two points higher than the national figure.Summer lunches at Emma Park
Since the Rocky Mountains surround Butte, locals can easily access outdoor recreation. BA&P Hill Trail and the Blacktail Creek Trail have 4 miles of paved and dirt trails for bikers and hikers looking for a challenge and scenic views. Chester Steele Park has a splash pad and open fields ideal for sledding in the wintertime. Emma Park is centrally located in the neighborhood with a gazebo. “Emma Park does lunch in the park on Wednesdays during warmer months,” Kelly says. Koprivica Park has a playground with swings and green space. Butte gets cold in the wintertime; the average daily temperature in the area below 38 degrees between mid-November and March. “You can’t live here without embracing winter,” Kelly says. “We hike a lot, go snowshoeing and cross skiing, and then you have the mountain trails.”Home to Butte High School
West Elementary teaches kids up through the sixth grade and earns a B-minus from Niche. Seventh and eighth graders can attend East Middle School and finish their education at Butte High. Dual credit courses are offered for high school students through Montana Tech, Highlands College of Montana Tech and the University of Montana Western in engineering, mathematics and foreign languages. East Middle and Butte High both earn C-plus grades from NicheEasy access to Interstate 15
Drivers can head up Main Street to the city’s Uptown area or use one of the several Butte Buses to get around. To reach other parts of Montana, drivers can travel west on Interstate 115, which links to Interstate 15 and Interstate 90. “Butte is the main corridor for Interstate 15 and 90; they cross right here,” Kelly says. These highways reach Helena and Bozeman. Bert Mooney Airport provides flights to Salt Lake City every day. St James Hospital is also located nearby in the event of an emergency.Close to oldest operating family Chinese restaurant
Florence Coffee Company offers espresso, blended and energy drinks. Annie’s Café is open for brunch five days a week, serving American breakfasts and comfort dishes, while Casagranda’s Steakhouse is an upscale restaurant in a 1900 historic building serving fresh seafood and pasta dishes. Off Main Street is Pekin Noodle Parlor, the oldest operating family-owned Chinese restaurant in America. Groceries can be purchased at Safeway, and Front Street Market sells specialty items like jellies, deli meats and wine.
