Former vacant area turned booming residential suburb
In Butte's Flats region, Floral Park was a vacant area in the early 20th century. It featured flat-graded streets and the Englewood Streetcar Line running through it. In 1914, two realtors started promoting lots selling under $200, but no one took this bait. Two years later, as the city went through a copper boom, The Flats became a more attractive spot for residential life and amenities such as schools, streetcar lines and homes were built shortly after. Today, it’s an area that maintains its residential environment with historic homes that are short drives from a business highway with lots of retail. "The biggest reason people move there is that they want to be closer to the amenities on the Flats. They want to be closer to Walmart and restaurants on Harrison Avenue," says Valerie Nielson, sales agent at Century 21 Shea Realty.
Lined with historic bungalows and midcentury moderns
Floral Park is a historic area; many houses reflect the period they were built. The neighborhood’s oldest homes from the 1910s and 1920s are craftsman bungalows. Later homes developed in the 1930s through the 1960s were midcentury moderns and smaller ranches. Neighborhood streets either have some form of a sidewalk or no separation from the roads. Most homes have front lawn space and separate sheds that can be converted into garages. "Those that move here want to have the yard space, bigger lots and lot more room away from neighbors," Nielson says. Prices vary from $150,000 for a smaller fixer-upper and $470,000 for a larger ranch home. Since the area is close to the Interstate and Harrison Avenue, it’s a noisier section of the city. However, the neighborhood does hold a lower CAP score of 2, two scores below the national score of 4.
Most homes in Floral Park have enough front lawn space for a dog to roam around and explore.

The mall was sold in 2024, and the new owner plans to remodel and bring in big-name tenants and a grocery store. Groceries are available at Safeway. Other shopping essentials can be picked up at Walmart Supercenter.
