Maple-lined streets and proximity to Canton
Canton’s Avondale neighborhood keeps residents close to downtown while also offering rural privacy. Living between Interstate 77 and Meyers Lake, residents benefit from a blend of commuter convenience along with weekend outdoors and entertainment choices. “You’re only minutes away from Amish country,'' says Beth Dibell, Realtor and manager of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realty, referring to the city's western and southwestern enclaves featuring a simpler way of life. "And we have the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which is an up-and-coming resort area.” Maple trees and midcentury homes on spacious lots line the streets. “Avondale is an older neighborhood, but it’s sought-after and holds more prestige in the area.” Some streets have sidewalks, but traffic usually moves slowly enough for residents to feel comfortable biking on those without sidewalks.

Homes in Avondale tend toward traditional styles
Many who are initially drawn to Avondale for its verdant spaces choose to put down roots. “People usually stay in the neighborhood a while. It’s got beautiful mature trees, and it’s in a great location," says Realtor Joanna Belden with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, who has sold several homes in the area. Midcentury builds from the 1950s through 1980s appear in various styles, often with acreage surrounding them. They are more traditional in style, showcasing Colonial and Tudor Revival architecture. The vast majority of homes fall within the price range of $200,000 to $380,000. Buyers can expect to get a four-bedroom split-level home on half an acre for less than $300,000. Those with a larger budget or needing more space can shop for a Colonial or Tudor Revival on more than an acre. These fetch $500,000, up to $700,000.

A weekend at Arboretum Park and Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Disc golf is a feature of both Avondale area parks. Westmoreland Avenue narrowly separates Arboretum Park and Spiker Park. A walk through the thin veil of trees returns park patrons to the neighborhood’s residential streets. Street signs warn drivers to keep an eye out for deer, which thrive in the park's woods. When cold weather arrives, locals work out at Planet Fitness or spend a Saturday at Sky Zone Trampoline Park.

Events and things to do in the greater Canton area
Centennial Plaza, two and a half miles from Avondale, is a hot spot for all sorts of happenings like live music, fundraisers, and local vendor showcases. Just across I-77 is the Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum and Village, which holds an annual Hall of Fame week celebration each summer. In addition to a new village, an indoor water park will be added. “It’s massive, and it’s going to draw more than just those who are interested in football,” says Dibell. Though it will likely increase Canton’s tourism, the project could negatively impact Avondale’s flow of traffic.
