Historic homes for a bargain near downtown Canton

With historic homes selling for about half the Canton average, and a location near downtown, Southwest Canton provides more affordable homes near city amenities. Though mainly a residential area, there are a few small businesses at the heart of the community, such as Bill’s Books & More and Athens Restaurant. Recently, some of the local schools have closed, which has affected families, though new facilities are planned. “We are trying to turn things around,” says Bob Grier, who has worked at the J. Babe Stearn Community Center for 30 years.

Most homes were built between the late 1800s and the 1920s and include features such as wrap-around porches and balconies. Homes in need of renovation range from $30,000 to $50,000, and turn-key homes sell for $60,000 to $120,000, similar to surrounding neighborhoods but below the norm for the metro area.
