Sunflower Village presents a strong sense of community at the edge of Metro Detroit

Located in Canton Township and the western edge of Metro Detroit, Sunflower Village is bustling with neighborhood activities and nearby shopping conveniences while still offering a quiet suburban atmosphere. “It’s like its own little community within a community,” says eXp Commercial Realtor Brian Lilly, who has sold homes in Canton Township for over five years. “You’ve got two pools, two rec centers. Most kids go to the same schools. It’s well established.” Neighbors come together for seasonal parties, and their kids attend highly rated schools. “If you walk through, you’ll see a really diverse mix of people. There are a lot of friendly neighbors,” says Turgut Tringovski, a Realtor with Moving the Mitten Real Estate Group as well as a local resident. “You’ll see kids playing, people working on their lawns, walking their dogs. It’s just a really nice, pleasant area.”

Recreation opportunities at home and beyond

Neighbors come together at outdoor spaces in the community as well as nearby parks. Residents have access to local events held at the community's two clubhouses, two pools and other communal spaces. Activities include an Easter egg hunt, summertime pool parties, a community picnic with music and activities, Halloween trunk-or-treats and holiday light and Santa events during the holiday season. Sunflower Village is also a few blocks away from Griffin Park’s playground, baseball diamonds and tennis courts. During cold Michigan winters, Spins Bowl offers an indoor recreation alternative. Its 60 lanes become zones of fierce but friendly competition for five bowling leagues, including tournaments for seniors and youths.

Diverse shopping and dining options lay just around the corner

This neighborhood’s location near major thoroughfares like Ford, Warren and Joy Roads puts it just around the corner from major retail outlets. “You’re five minutes from anything you can think of--shopping, dining,” Tringovski says. Ford Road is home to the local Kroger and Meijer supermarkets, as well as big-box stores like T.J. Maxx and Kohl’s. Leo’s Coney Island continues a century-old, Greek-influenced Metro Detroit tradition by serving the classic “Coney Island hot dog” and other diner classics. Canton Center Road features the local Papaya Fruit Market, while Sheldon Road is home to another Kroger and to Chennai Express, an Indian restaurant bringing Tamil flavors to suburban Wayne County.
