While older ranch-style homes sprinkle the north side, newer custom homes are the norm in Briarbrook. These typically date from the early 2000s through today, with most featuring brick facades. Schuber Mitchell, an active builder in the area, owns part of the subdivision and has pre-built new construction homes and lots still available for semi-custom builds. Events throughout the Joplin area include the Carl Junction Bluegrass Festival, which brings music lovers together each September. State Route 171 is a major east-west connector that leads toward Springfield, about 78 miles east, while State Highway 43 is the main road into Joplin, about 7 miles south. The neighborhood is bordered by train tracks and close to Joplin Regional Airport, which may cause some sound disturbances. The airport is a convenient spot to catch a domestic flight, flying direct to Chicago and Denver. Healthcare requires a longer trip, as Freeman Hospital West, the area's largest hospital, is 10 miles south. Carl Junction is known for its highly rated schools, and Briarbrook students can follow one track from kindergarten through 12th grade. Carl Junction Primary K-1 School earns a B-plus from Niche, and Carl Junction Primary 2-3 earns an A-minus. Kids usually progress to Carl Junction Intermediate for fourth through sixth grade, Carl Junction Junior High for seventh and eighth and Carl Junction High School for ninth through twelfth.
