Mount Rainier views and less stress in the valley
Stillwater is a small, rural area in the Snoqualmie River Valley, south of the private community of Lake Marcel. It's cozy and calm here, with a slower pace than in nearby cities, says Stillwater resident NJ Shelsby. "There's this bridge you cross over to get to the valley, and as soon as we cross over, our stress levels just drop." She describes the community as tight-knit and a great place to raise kids. "You know their neighbors' names and their kids' names." There's a mix of residents: some original owners of homes built several decades ago and new families coming in with kids. The neighborhood has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Along with seclusion and woodland scenery, Stillwater offers impressive views. "At the end of our cul-de-sac, there is a big view of Mount Rainier. Whenever we get the mail, we go down and stop and look," Shelsby says. The closest small cities include Carnation a few miles south. "This area is referred to as Stillwater, but I say I live in Carnation," Shelsby says. Duvall is about 6 miles northwest.
Hiking the Snoqualmie Valley Trail and other outdoor activities
South of Stillwater, people can park and hike a section of the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, which stretches about 30 miles from Duvall to North Bend. Swimming, kayaking and standup paddleboarding are popular on the Snoqualmie River and at Lake Joy, about 5 miles northeast. The Cherry Creek Falls Trailhead, about a 6-mile drive north from Stillwater, includes a 25-foot waterfall.

Manufactured homes, ramblers and custom builds
Homes rarely go on the market in Stillwater, and they are typically spacious, custom homes. The average home value in early 2025 was $1.1 million. Montaire, an area with million-dollar homes, is one of the few with a homeowners association. "It's just 10 houses on 318th Street, that's all that's in the HOA," says Shelsby, the association's president. "The HOA is relaxed; it's not like officers controlling things. The purpose is to maintain the community and protect home values. We get together regularly."
Housing types here also include 1980s and '90s manufactured homes and ramblers. "There are larger parcels of land here," says Carla Geraghty, a broker with Re/Max Northwest who lives in Lake Marcel. "Many homes are on an acre or more."
Modest ramblers are some of the more common architectural styles found in Stillwater.
1980s and 1990s manufactured homes can be found throughout the Stillwater neighborhood.

Things to do at Camlann Medieval Village and Remlinger Farms
Just up the road from Stillwater is Camlann Medieval Village, a living-history museum based around life in 14th-century England. Village tours operate seasonally, but the Bors Hede Inne restaurant is open Friday through Sunday all year. Camlann hosts events, including a May Festival, a Midsomer Festival and a Harvest Festival.
There's a lot going on at Remlinger Farms, about 5 miles from Stillwater. Remlinger's Country Fair Fun Park has rides, a brewery, a café and a wine bar. Remlinger has also become a regional concert venue. In 2024, in partnership with the Seattle Theater Group, Reminger introduced a summer concert series. The outdoor venue has a capacity of 6,000 people.

Most drive, but the Valley Shuttle stops on Kelly Road
Most Stillwater residents rely on cars to get around, and they have easy access to state Route 203 to the south. Snoqualmie Valley Transportation's Valley Shuttle stops on Kelly Road. Shelsby says many people either commute to Microsoft or are retired from the company: "It's very tech-centric around here." From Stillwater, it's about 14 miles to the Microsoft Headquarters in Redmond. Bellevue, which has offices for Amazon and Meta, and Issaquah, the Costco Wholesale headquarters location, are about 20 miles away.
The Stillwater Store, or more shops in Carnation and Duvall
The Stillwater Store, off SR-203, is part of a small commercial area where residents can get gas and buy essentials. The area also includes a salon, Country Rose Hair. Carnation and Duvall have a small-town vibe with locally owned businesses, cafes and restaurants. "If you are going to eat out, you go to Carnation or Duvall," Shelsby says. In Carnation, Pour House Pete's serves casual fare. There are boutiques, a hardware store and the Carnation Market, part of the IGA brand, and Duvall has a Safeway. "If you're looking for a mall, you have to leave town," Shelsby says. "For big shopping, you go to Redmond, Bellevue, or Walmart in Monroe. And Issaquah is not that far away."
Jim Ribail, mayor of the City of Carnation, says the music scene here has become a big draw for the region. Two large, multiday music festivals, Timber! and BrodieNation, are held in the summer. Miller's, a popular event venue, is a staple for live music on Friday and Saturday nights.
In nearby Carnation, Pour House Pete's is a spot for Stillwater residents to get some grub.
