Upscale Carson City area close to massive outdoor destinations

Carson City’s vast Lakeview area sits in a zipcode stretching all the way west to the shores of Lake Tahoe. Along with upscale homes — several around the million-dollar mark — residents enjoy proximity to activities ranging from hikes and mountain bike treks across acres of pine- and sagebrush-covered hills to fly fishing and boating among the lakes between here and the national tourist destination straddling the Nevada and California line. “It’s pretty quiet, and it’s pretty nice,” says Brenden Pagniello, the Mountain Vista Baptist Church’s office administrator and youth director. “We’re about a half-hour out from Lake Tahoe, depending on where on Lake Tahoe you’re trying to go. Even beyond Lake Tahoe, you got Spooner Lake and some outdoorsy trails. It’s really nice, if you’re really into the outdoors side of things.”

A “Tahoe-esque” feel in Carson City

The Lakeview Estates community has upscale ranch-style, Traditional and contemporary homes on lots that can exceed an acre. Dense brush hedges these properties, with some set against rocky hills. “A lot of those homes have beautiful views of the Washoe Valley, and some have great views of Carson City. It’s also more in the trees, so it has a Tahoe-esque feel,” says Kari Breuer, a broker with Dickson Realty. However, the Lakeview area is at a high wildfire risk, according to firstreet.org. “A lot of those homeowners have been evacuated on more than a few occasions,” Breuer says. More upscale homes exist in the other communities, but tend to have smaller footprints and lots. The Mountain Vista Baptist Church area features more ranch-style and split-level homes. Homes that either have footprints of well over 2,000 square feet or sit on more than 1-acre lots go from $1 million to $1.3 million. The remainder of the homes here run between $600,000 and $820,000.

Boating, fishing and adventures to Ash and Kings canyons

This part of the city sits at the mouths of Ash and Kings canyons. Ash draws mountain bikers, while Kings’ centerpiece is its 25-foot waterfall. The Lakeview Estates is just south of Washoe Lake, which provides boat ramps and opportunities to catch channel catfish and white bass. The area also enjoys access to simpler neighborhood amenities like Carriage Square and John Mankins parks, which have playgrounds and relaxing green spaces. John Mankins also has a skate park. The neighborhood around Longview Way also boasts an extensive network of paths that connects to the greater Carson City Trail system, which goes toward the Lakeview Estates to the north.

Mexican fare, steaks and cocktails around the North Town Plaza

Chain grocery Save Mart occupies the nearby North Town Plaza. Dining staples include Glen Eagles Restaurant & Bar, a laidback spot with some upscale touches. The eatery serves steaks and seafood, which patrons can pair with a cocktail. The establishment also occasionally hosts live music. Across the road is Mi Casa Too Mexican Restaurant, where the indoor decor includes an ornate water fountain. Many across the city enjoy the bar food and drinks at Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill, a small chain with several locations in the Washoe Valley. Parts of the area are also closer to downtown’s eclectic dining scene, putting some within minutes of pastry shops like the L.A. Bakery Cafe.

Mountain Vista Baptist Church’s Halloween and Easter celebrations

During Halloween, a few hundred people come to the Mountain Vista Baptist Church’s parking lot for its Trunk or Treat. The Halloween event offers carnival games that the costumed children play to win candy. The church’s other major event is its Easter Egg Hunt. “Those are the two main ones that come to mind,” Pagniello says, adding that the church has also previously hosted summer movie nights. “We’re always looking at other opportunities.”

I-580 commute to multiple destinations

Although Jump Around Carson — JAC — doesn’t reach the Lakeview Estates, the transit system has several bus stops in other parts of the area. Otherwise, the communities here have quick access to Interstate 580 and North Carson Street, which go toward downtown Carson City. I-580 also goes to Reno, less than 30 miles north. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport serves as the region’s hub for commercial flights. The interstate also puts the Lakeview neighborhood 2 miles from the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.
