The successor to Nevada’s historic Empire City
New Empire lies in an area that played an important role in the country’s historic silver rush. The neighborhood is a successor to Empire City, an old town that acted as a processing hub for the mined rocks of the silver-rich Comstock Lode. The community remembers its history through institutions like the neighborhood’s Empire Elementary School and the Empire Ranch Golf Course, which still has the 1860s red Colonial-style home of Empire City’s founder. Today, the area houses a diverse community on the edge of the Carson City Airport.“You can watch the small airplanes take off every day. A lot of people do,” says Steven Segal, assistant manager of New Empire’s Comstock Mobile Village. “It’s a very safe neighborhood, very peaceful, very quiet. It’s close to the city as far as downtown, but it’s far enough to where it’s off the beaten path.”
Split-level homes in New Empire reflect classic suburban design with simple lines and family-friendly layouts.

Ranch-style housing and manufactured home communities
As shown by parks like the Comstock Mobile Village, New Empire has communities and pockets of manufactured homes. The Comstock property, in particular, is a 55-plus community with amenities like a year-round sauna, a billiards and card room and a seasonal pool. “We have a lot of community events. We have a great social committee. We do bingo. There are a lot of things we try to do well at,” Segal says.
The rest of the neighborhood has blocks of ranch-style homes — many with front gabled wings — and Craftsmen. Some properties come with brick, wood or wired fencing for added privacy. Costs range from $120,000 for a manufactured home to nearly $500,000 for a ranch-style home.
New Empire’s mobile home parks offer affordable, tight-knit community with charming vintage and updated manufactured units.

Taquerias and sushi in the heart of New Empire
A small commercial corridor with chain brands, local eateries and some gaming venues — the Jackpot and Slot World casinos — sits in the heart of New Empire. Local dining staples include the Taqueria Alonso Mexican Food, which is hard to miss with its orange building and drawing of Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzalez on its front window. The taqueria is down the block from the Salvadoran flavors of Coco’s Taqueria y Pupuseria. Kei Sushi adds to the diversity of options, while Foodmaxx and Centro Market provide grocery store options. “The nice thing about Carson is all the amenities you got on the south end, you got them on the north end of town,” says Chris Griffith, a Realtor with Intero.

Carson City Airport’s Community Open House
Although the event’s exact date varies from year to year, the city airport hosts an annual community open house to showcase aircraft from multiple generations. Aviation fans get to see vintage fighter planes, antiques, drones and even homebuilt aircraft. Additionally, the event features food, live music and science-oriented activities for the younger visitors. The 2024 open house occurred in September, while the one the preceding year took place in June.
I-580 and Lincoln Highway commutes
